I still think that countries that already have a quota in an event should not be allowed to earn more here.

Eh, still better than the old rule (where :JPN would have gotten a second quota from worlds)

Agreed, but I also think that the qualification system (for grabbing additional quotas at Worlds) is stupid, and needs to be changed.

:CAN Fabbri/Ayer did really well, but because our top two ice dance teams didn’t finish high enough they didn’t qualify.

The whole way quotas to worlds are decided is quite bad in general.

Based on how things are going, this is who I expect to be in the team event.

Full team:

:USA:ITA:GEO:CAN
Likely to have full team:

:JPN

Likely to have a full team after additional quota allocation:

:FRA:GBR:CHN

Likely to have incomplete team:

:KOR:POL (South Korea will be missing pairs and Poland will be missing dance)

France and GB will be pretty secure for an additional team spot (in pairs and men’s respectively), Poland and China will fight it out for the additional dance spot (depends on their team ranking).

If either :FRA gets a pairs spot through re-allocation or if both :JPN and :CHN qualify in ice dance then every country except Korea will have a full team (as far as I can tell South Korea has no eligible pairs team)

It use to be even worse. In 2014 :KOR Kim Yuna earned three quota places due to winning gold at 2013 Worlds.

They could easily solve this by saying for a 2nd athlete/couple to qualify, they both need to make the free skate/dance and for a 3rd they all need to finish in the top 15

That is still how qualifying for worlds work. They only changed the rule for the Olympics.

Only Germany left with any real chance to make it to the Team Event. Finland and Australia way too far away from top 5.
