Interestingly there was a documentary on British TV yesterday about the 1st Women's World Cup in 1991.

Apparently the USSR team financed their tournament by importing crates of Vodka and illegally selling it

Yep, each team member were given a certain number of bottles to sell as I remember it.

Well, Rugby World Cups are very long competitions. It certainly can't be appealing to a viewer to watch a team lose by nearly 80 points.

 

On the other hand, restricting these teams from participating maybe isn't the best option. How many chances does a team like Brazil have of facing a powerhouse like France? The trick is finding the right balance. I imagine it's a dilemma every women's team sport faces.

There are no right answer tbh and both arguments are valids. But realy, women's rugby is one of the least competetive sport at international level (even for the quarter finals, a couple of blowouts are guaranteed)

 

For people who are not aware, we went from 12 to 16 teams this world cup.

Seen 2 games live already and attending 2 more games this weekend.

And yes, not a lot of balance in strength of the teams, but atmosphere is still very enjoyable
