Well, three more than most countries!  But how many start off as teenagers then switch at U-23 or so?  Rather more, I think?

Unfortunately he hasn’t fulfilled his potential this time around, but he still young and I believe he can improve both physically and mentally to be more prepared for LA in 2028 and even for next World championship

He was born in 2000, so calling him young is a bit of a stretch. Lavreysen was born in 1997, so just 3 years older.

Yes, the problem for Yakovlev is that his main rivals aren't much older than him and there are some very promising younger riders (Choi, Gill etc.) emerging

The problem may also that the fact that the Netherlands and the UK have a significant technological advantage in sprint. Perhaps that's why Predomo is stagnating. This could also be the reason why Jakovlev isn't winning...

 

Secondly, why Milan might wan`t to try start at the Madison and Omnium at the Olympics? He's very fast, unlike Ganna, and Wiebes and Kopecky have shown that it's possible to combine track and road. Two more medals in 2028, plus team, are probably exciting for everyone.

surely the technological aspect must not be forgotten, but Predomo is just not competitive at all among the seniors, he's regularly outside the top 25 in the 200m qualifying round and he doesn't look to be taken into too much consideration for the keirin races

basically, he's just doing the team sprint (wasted time, a medal is just outside our chances...OK, it's needed for olympic qualification purpose, but it shouldn't be the main focus)

I don't know if he can (and want) still make a major step towards world excellence or just be another big "what if"

he doesn't have the perfect skills for those races, and he would need a lot of experience to learn to race that kind of event

Wiebes yesterday just showed how it doesn't matter how talented you are, if you don't have enough experience the point race and even more the Madison race don't forgive anybody

Sierra and Consonni (and in the future, Stella) are the men for those events; Milan should be the heart of the team pursuit and the man for the road race (if LA 2028 will really have a sprinter-friendly course)

p.s. the women can't be compared to the men, the competition level is just different
