good question!

ask the IOC and their "youth and urban" obsession :bones:

How many of these types of events were there in 1994, and how many are there now? For me, the more disciplines with judges in the lead role, the worse it gets, for example, diving in the summer.

You would be very unpopular with free skiers and snowboarders (and fans who watch those events).

The big criticism of big air from both is that it doesn’t reward variety and style enough, people would riot if you could win gold by repeating the same trick twice :P

The reality is that in fact park & pipe events are really not so popular and so highly estimated outside of north america and NZ/AUS. Here they are quite overlooked as unnecessarily forced events to please the rich north american and Australian markets, which at some point is understandable.

In fact if they were all removed from the program, only a very small part of european populaton will be outraged I imagine. In Slovakia probably nobody would even notice :p but thats another question, here people thing Olympics are hockey tournament and are shocked to see there also some weird skating or skiing sports in TV between the matches too :p

Europeans need to remember that they are one market for the Olympics, not the only market...

Because if we were to remove sports that are only popular in Europe we can do a lot of cuts in both the summer and winter games.

For me sport should have clear and simple rules, like alpine skiing: who is fastest- wins. And all those acrobatics on snow are essentially the same as figure skating. The difference is that figure skating has over 100 years of Olympic tradition and these snow jumps. etc began to be introduced en masse into the Olympic program in the early 21st century. Let it be in the games program, but no more than 4-5 events, like in figure skating. That's simply too much for me.

Big air and aerials are genuinely more different from each other than downhill and slalom are.

Yes, sticks 😄

Actually this gives me the idea that a combined aerials / big air competition would be hilarious, would make later day men's alpine combined look good by comparaison.

Did not want to start a war

Just tried to explain how it is viewed here, personally I do not care, I am happy, the most events the best I always try to watch everything even if I understand absolutely nothing :p (like here for example but I like all the jumps and turns etc) :yes

FWIW I keep the same energy for people say that "niche" (from a NA POV) sports like ski jumping, luge, handball or field hockey should be removed from the Olympics.

For example I really liked the Dual Moguls

The judging was a bit surprising to me though :p

    • The women's weights are okay given the distribution of competitors. The men's weights are definitely underweight. Adding 2-3kg in each event would make it more balanced.
