rules are rules, but these rules are shit and this is a legalized robbery

the best in the competition by far not winning is a clear sign that this discipline is not a sport and doesn't belong to the olympics at all

IOC sucks!

One of the most consistent performers over the last quad, so well deserved seeing Oldham win two medals here, a bronze in slopestyle and now SHE CAN CALL HERSELF AN OLYMPIC FUCKING CHAMPION :CAN:CAN:CAN :hyper: :hyper::clap::clap:

So happy for her, you can really see much it means to her

Did nobody tell Flora about this rule? Because to me this was a pretty clear strategy call to give up on gold in order to try to get bronze.

But this has been the rule in FIS Big Air basically for ever and the athletes know it.

Wait, Oldham had 91.75 and 89.00.

Tabanelli had 90.00 and 94.25.

I thought the best two scored were counted together? Apparently not? (No, I am not familiar with current rules.)

...

Flora could've done a new trick, or tried to improve on the 84, that's on her not the rules. :bones:

No, not if they're the same trick. Rules want to see creativity :d

Playing at home is truly magical. :CHN had its best campaign in history in 2022, and now it's barely managing one gold medal just four years later. Let's see if they can manage it by the end of the Games, but it's getting difficult.

Let's see what they'll do in the Aerials.

poor grab, reviewable landing

how the hell is that a 93? (even with 1 more rotation than the others)

So I'll admit to not being an expert on this, but I would presume that the additional rotation ups the difficulty and then grab/landing takes points off. So had it been perfectly executed, she might have scored higher than that. Which is why Tabanelli scored 1.25 more than her for performing the same trick, but better.

Also - and again, I'm no expert - my understanding of the landing scoring is that it only significantly matters if you actually touch the ground with a body part that isn't your skis. Whilst it looked close, from the replays I saw, she didn't actually touch it. And I presume the judges have a better camera options than I do.

Either way, she didn't medal so it doesn't really matter one way or the other.

Basically, if you do the same trick twice, only the higher score counts.

So if you have, say, 90 points with trick A, 85 points with trick A and 80 points with trick B, you get 90+80 points.
