Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Competition Schedule Road to LA 2028

What about the schedule of FIH-hockey?

There are 17 days of competition, but they only need 16 days. 10 days (6 matches in 2 sessions) of group plays and 6 days with quarter-, semi- and finals.

Perhaps the opening match is one day and then rest of the schedule as normal.

Good point, i did not notice it before, that athletics is not in evening. Interesting. What about weather in LA? Will not be too hot for athletes?

The late afternoon/early evening start times for athletics and swimming is to accommodate USA

East Coast prime time.  They don't want those events starting at 11:00/midnight in New York. It was the same way in 1984.

The mystery is still the hockey schedule. I read that there definetely will be only one hockey pitch instead of two which were used at the previous games.

In the daily schedule, two sessions were listed (9.00 - 14.00 & 17.00 - 22.00) containing 2 games each.

If that is correct, there is space for 44 group matches (22 by gender / 11 preliminary days). But this system doesn't fit to the known procedures (2 groups of 6 or 3 groups of 4).

It could be 3 groups of 4 but everyone advances, the first placed and the best second are ranked 1st-4th and go to quarterfinals, the other 8 teams to playoffs (5th v 12th, ..., 8th v 9th).

Two matches did not need five hours. In the 2024-programme one match was scheduled to 1:30 hours. On Wikipedia OG 2028 are listed two venues. I think the format of competition is the same as handball: 16 days. So one of the 17 days in the schedule is a rest day.

as far as I know, there's still a good argument within the FIH itself on the Olympic format (IOC and LA OC are pushing for the 3 groups of 4 -like basketball, volleyball and now also waterpolo- meanwhile most of the FIH officials are against this new format)

no final decision has been taken yet and more details (including a new daily schedule adjustment) will come as soon as possible

however, it's sure that they will use only 1 pitch, no matter if there will be 4 or 6 games a day (depending on the format chosen - 9am/noon/5 & 8pm if the games are only 4, 9 & 11.15am/2 & 4.15 + 7 & 9.15pm if the games are 6)

And isn't a medal on the third day of rowing a little quick?  In previous games the first medals were on day 5.

It likely means at least one of 4x, 4-, or 8+ will have three consecutive days of competition or perhaps we'll have just a heat and final.

given the new racing system* and the fact that there are only 7 boats, the 8+ only need 2 competition days: qualifying races + final

*for those who're not familiar with it yet: now the prelims are contested with timed heats (the top 12/24 advancing, depending on how many boats are competing; with 7 boats only, the top 6 advance straight to the final) and then there are no more repechage heats, but only (quarterfinals, if it's the case), semis and finals

That's going to lead to some controversy. At least do Top 2 and two fastest times.
