Fencing EFC European Championships 2025

Recommended Posts

Batini is in 4, but the result of our entire squad is terrible. France did better than us today + Italy's 2 most dangerous rivals (looking at the ranking): Lacheravay and Pasztor are in 1/2. Our fencers let us down, apart from Batini.

Under Cerioni everything fell apart in the last Olympic year - before there were a lot of medals at the World and European Championships. Now it's much worse, but maybe it will be better at the Olympics? I'm only worried that apart from Favaretto we don't have anyone young at a high level, because people like Errigo, Volpi, or Batini have been in the team for 10-15 years.

Sabre is a more serious problem - here we are counting less and less: in women's not at all, in men's individual the last medal was won for us by veteran Samele in 2024. The competition in the world is getting bigger and bigger, and we are left behind. France has shown that thanks to investments in domestic games it is possible to stay in the top. In our country, without a radical increase in money for fencing and for all the sport in general, there will be a very painful decline in results in the next few Olympic cycles.

Roman Svichkar is our newly crowned European Champion in men's epee, first in 31 years, fantastic result (which reminds me of Kharkova, she also won her title in the first postolympic year). :hyper:

And silver for Komashchuk, she beated huge names like Gkontoura and Szucz and makes Ukraine now one of the leaders in the medal table. Also now our fencers won at least one medal in every type of weapon during this season

After 2 days of the European Championships at home: 0-1-2, and France - our only serious rival here - 3 gold. Personally, I don't care about the European Championships in the post-Olympic years, but with this form in foil women, we will a probably disaster at the World Championships.

Today's good: Matteo Galassi, junior World silver medallist a few weeks ago and now also senior European silver medallist at his first major event among the big boys

Cuomo and Santarelli, still better than expected

Today's bad: Davide Di Veroli, just another wasted chance for the defending champion

the usual sh*t: the women's sabre...no personality, no results...one moment of light followed by the usual darkness (when it's a good day)

inconclusive, irritating...and nothing changes despite all the recent mixing up of the federation and of the team staff

There are still the teams, and maybe France-Italy duels.

finally, the first gold medal for :ITA :cheer:

even if it came from the most unexpected guy and once again we experienced some disappointing outings despite the 4 medals won Today (in particular, Marini and Macchi threw their chances away with some poor performances, given their supposed status and standard)

In the fight with France in the medal table the key is gold in the women's foil today. It will be a fight for double the stakes. In sabre, defeating Hungary will be difficult.

    • I think I can live with the draw , not a bad group at all. just a week ago our mafia coach said his dream group is Belgium, Egypt and Haiti, he almost got that !   but it's really hard for me (and so many others) to cheer for this team, A mafia boss coach, disgusting group of players. I never had this feeling about any NT in any sport before but still the national team is the national team. you have to like it  coaches and players come and go, the team is what matters.   if the team makes it to the competition, I'm sure there will be lots of Iranians in the stadium despite the orange's ban, that will never be a problem.
    • Belgium is the luckiest in this story
    • One of the worst possible draw for us. Group really easy but having to face  or  in the Round of 32 is devastating.
