I wonder if it’s a good idea to add results of the recent FIFA U-20 Men’s World Cup to the 2025 medal table. It is U-20 in 2025 and it will be U-23 in 2028, in 3 years time. Some of these athletes may be the key players in LA.

 

I think i will add this event to my LA simulation… at least for now.

We have always added the main FIFA World Cup in the simulation. I agree it's not ideal, but considering the U20 World Cup also has its limitation. For example it will be played again in 2027 and that time surely with many players who would not be selected for the following year's Olympic Games.

Ok. Glad we're not doing the same work twice here. Our medal tables will be different then, but it's good actually.

What are you doing right now for Weighlifting? Are you counting some of the medals?

I have counted 4 weight categories so far.

 

M +110kg, M 110kg, W +86kg, W 86kg.

 

I think those four are sure. I mean - there has to be a superheavy "open" weight category in both genders... and one category below that for each gender as well...

 

But all the rest is a mess for me. @erw had some good ideas for it here though (I mean - which weight categories will be there in LA). I wonder if @MHSN would like to share his thoughts on it with us as well...

Another big problem in my simulation is TENNIS.

 

I want to avoid using "the rankings" as the main factor in my predictions for any event. I want to add the results of certain championships/ world cups / the main event of the year 2025 (like Masters in M Golf) in every sport...

 

And i don't know what to do with tennis - whether to wait for ATP/WTA Finals or to use 2025 US Open results maybe (cause the olympics will be in US and they play on hard courts..)... no Wimbledon here sadly, even if many consider it the tennis event of the year and that would be gold for Poland this year heh… but it’s on grass and there won’t play on grass in LA so… 

 

And what to do with Mixed Doubles then??? Maybe i'd like to use US Open for this event, because it was probably the same format we will have in LA... No medal for Iga Świątek here either though because she played with Casper Ruud in NY and i exclude multi-NOC pairs (like W Doubles Table Tennis 2025 WCH medalists from Romania & Austria)...

 

The one thing i surely won't use is the final 2025 December 31st ATP/WTA rankings because i want to use the rankings only to break the ties...

 

 

 

And then EQUESTRIAN - even bigger problem. What are (what were) the main competitions in 2025 for every event - team and individual??? @dcro maybe You could help here...

 

And then team's events in ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS...

 

 

ARTISTIC SWIMMING...

 

RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS Group Competition...

 

Women's FOOTBALL...

All these new LA team sports... - LACROSSE, CRICKET, FLAG FOOTBALL, BASEBALL, SOFTBALL...

 

And HOCKEY...

 

 

And - last but not least - my beloved Men's BASKETBALL. No good solution here at all. The first thought is US with gold as a lock somehow and then GER and TUR as EuroBasket finalists but obviously it's not the best solution of all... quite controversial actually.

Spain is probably having a success of century in terms of gold medals + there's a 90% chance they'll get another gold medal at Alcaraz in December... Poland has also made significant progress since 2024. Italy has been stable for several years: according to my calculations, we should get another 3 medals in tennis in December for sure: gold for Errani/Paolini, silver for Sinner, silver/bronze for mixed doubles + maybe 1-2 more medals in shooting or Costal Rowing. We will be fighting with Spain and Russia for places 7-9 at the end of this year.
