Swimming Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Recommended Posts

Looks like the US figured out their breaststroke problem for the men's medley relay

because 18 year old Campbell McKean won US trials in a time of 58.96.

They also seem to have had a resurgence in the men's 400 free. Rex Maurer won the race in 3:43.33 and Luka Mijatovic (still 16 years old) finished 2nd in 3:45.71.

Also the other night, Gretchen Walsh just missed her 100 fly World record finishing in 54.76. She now has the 7 fastest times ever, all swam within the past year.

Summer won the 800m freestyle in a time of 8:05.07, 3rd fastest performance of all time. Whether or not she'll swim this at World championships is still unknown.

I didn't realize Santo Condorelli was representing the US now. At this rate, he'll be representing North Macedonia in Brisbane.

In some ways it would have been nice if he stayed Canadian, but his lack of loyalty is definitely concerning. I can see changing nationality because you have a problem with the federation or maybe it's easier to qualify, but that goes out the window once you are changing twice and to a harder program.

Just looking at his numbers here, with Canada he missed the podium in 2016 in the 100m free by just 0.03 (it does make sense that he finished 4th, since he was racing for Canada at the time). He went to Italy and didn't even get to race it for them in 202(1) in the 100, but he did in the 50 (but failed to move out of the heats). He did get a silver as part of their relay, which may have been his hope, but he didn't swim in the final. Canada finished 4th (OF COURSE) in Tokyo, and may have gotten bronze with him in the final for them. His 50 free time in the US is pretty good, but he hasn't made the relay team which is probably his best hope at a medal.

Anyway, good luck to him. I also read by looking him up here his dad died, and the one thing I really remember from him when he raced for Canada was his connection with his dad (they'd give the middle finger to each other at the end of every final).

    • Decent team, on european level ofc. In a normal tournament would certainly be a Quarterfinal contender.   In a NHL level gonna be, hard slash impossible, to keep the rhythm for the guys though, but definitely a nice roster on a WCh level for sure.   Nice satisfaction for Bellemare, one great last dance for this huge hockey legend. Fully deserved. He and Da Costa + Texier have possibilities to provide something and surprise some defences also in Milano.
    • Of all the valid points one can make, I'd say someone's mastery of the English language shouldn't really be one on an international forum like this. I think at least 80% of us don't have English as native language, and there's logically going to be a difference in levels.   Again, not disagreeing with the actual contents of what you and people here are saying, but attacking one's language skills (other than an innocent joke here or there, for which this isn't exactly the right place of discussion I assume) feels unnecessary and kind of takes away from the actual content
