Biathlon IBU World Cup 2024 - 2025

Our entire biathlon in the 21st century is 2 individuals: Wierer and Vittozzi. When they leave, there will be nothing left. No system, no plan, no generational change. All of that is in France, for example. I don't see it here, despite having our home games. We used to be a powerhouse in women's cross-country skiing. Now there's nothing left of it. For a moment, we covered it up with successes in biathlon thanks to 2 individuals who were a lottery ticket for us. At the moment, looking at Wierer's age, our entire women's biathlon depends on the health of one Vittozzi, just like technical alpine skiing in Brignone. Personally, I was hoping for something more, but as you can see, it's impossible to plan anything here.

I feel for you. I am also quite a staunch supporter of Italian sport (I always root for your athletes, especially in Summer Olympics). I think Georgia Colomb in alpine skiing and Auchentaler (I hope I typed it correctly) in biathlon have good potential though. They look very promising to me.

I think I have some kind of autumn depression but I'm really getting down about these results at the beginning of the winter season. The summer season was great for us now we have this incident with the ice wall :( Everything looks black for my, like the weather outside the window.

I don't think things are that bad for the women's team - 4th in the relay with Dorro & three in their early 20s.

The start of the biathlon season is disastrous for us and even the absence of Vittozzi doesn't change my opinion. Cortina 2026 looks bleak and gloomy for us, apart from a few individuals :(

I think you're doom spiraling too hard after just a few races...

Giacomel is very strong and I think that he might definitely land on a podium this season. The Italian women's team has a lot of very talented juniors that just need some time to grow. Dorothea Wierer also took her time to grow into her best form, so why is it not possible to give some time to the other talented athletes? Not everyone is bound to crush it at 21-23 y. o.

Wow Ella Halvarsson where did that come from, and the smallest of edge-misses away from a victory even!

I'm curious to see if she survives beyond the trimester or even Kontiolahti. In the past, we've often heard that the Swedes are in particularly good form at the start. I still remember Johanna Skottheim the most, she also had a dream week in Kontiolahti four years ago and nothing worked from Hochfilzen onwards. She's still competing in the IBU Cup, but won't make it into the World Cup.
We'll have completely different snow conditions in Hochfilzen next week, so everything will start all over again.

I am worried about that. The swedes almost never gets better than in the start of the season.

However, despite being 25 years old the reports from the team is that she made huge steps during the training season. She barely made the A-team just because she is a good shooter and becuase Stina Nilsson changed sport, Mona Brorsson ended her career and Linn Gestblom (Persson) was injured) and she was like 20minutes behind everyone during training in the spring and then the coach and the other girls have said she has been on their level after summer.

Well, Johanna did have an unlucky streak with sickness and even injuries if I remember correctly.

Today is the first time since November 29th 2022 that there was no Norwegian on the podium in a men's race :yikes:

    • What I think about  chances:   Football (W) - Already qualified Volleyball (W) - Impossible not to qualify Volleyball (M) - 100% Handball (W) - 95%    Basketball (M) - 55% - I think this is the team's best moment in about 15 years. So I'm more confident this time.   Rugby (W) - 65% - Argentina is really improving, but I think in a direct confrontation for the spot we would still prevail, but this could be our last Olympics until they overtake us in this sport.   Football (M) - 30% - I don't think the CBF wants to miss another Olympics. Of course, it will depend on the clubs, but it will probably be the best team available. Which should be enough to have a chance at qualifying.   Handball (M) - 50% - This should be the best time to qualify, considering that Argentina is rebuilding, but I'm not going to give this team any favoritism.   Basketball (W) - 10% - The team has two really good players, if a miracle happens... But I doubt it.   Water Polo (M) - 33% - Canada, Brazil, and Argentina are at the same level.   Water Polo (W) - 5% - Canada isn't totally invincible here, so I won't consider this team completely out of the running.   Remaining - 0%    My bets: Football (W) Volleyball (M/W) Handball (M/W) Basketball (M) Rugby (W)
