The Road to Milano-Cortina ‘26 Road to Milano Cortina 2026

Recommended Posts

The first opportunity for Team GB to qualify athletes to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics is coming up shortly.

Earlier this year in February, the Men’s Ice Hockey Team successfully topped their Olympic Qualification pool, with victories over Romania, China and Serbia. This enabled them to progress to the final Olympic Qualification Tournament.

The fixtures below:
29 August, 7.30pm - :GBR v :DEN

30 August, 3.30pm - :GBR v :NOR

1 September, 12.30pm - :GBR v :JPN

The matches are being hosted in Denmark and the top of the pool wins the qualification spot. This is the only route to qualification.

@Mkbw50 / @Rafa Maciel Maybe you can create a section for 2026 Winter Olympics?

Winner takes it all situation for GB women's ice hockey team later today. After dispatching :LAT 3-2 on Thursday they racked up a 3-0 win over :ESP yesterday to maintain unbeaten record in the group.

This afternoon they will face off against :NED at 16:00 - whoever wins will top the group and will proceed to the final qualification tournament in February.

Obviously delighted to secure qualification but can't help feeling that at the moment, we would only be going to make up the numbers. Hopefully there will be a bit of a shake-up in the squad and we won't see Morrison playing 4th. Maybe the selectors will be brave and drop her in favour of Fay Henderson. She's already been dropped as skip - surely it's only a matter of time before she is moved aside as fourth.

There was a bit of confusion about this a couple of months back, but skeleton slider Laura Deas confirms retirement after losing her team spot during her baby break.

Made a new thread in Milano/Cortina 2026 section (as per what @Sindo posted), so this one is in the archives

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

    • Slovakia pulled the goalie out in the Overtime and played 4 vs 3  for more than 2 minutes    We suddeenly pulled out goalie and have control of the puck for like 2 minutes in the first 2 minutes of the overtime but without soring than lost the puck and give up a 2 on 0 breakaway empty net goal for the czechs    Interesting strategy

    • Yeah, there's certainly things to complain about from an athletes' perspective, but snow should really not be much of an issue indeed. Mostly things like the enormous geographical spread and it's consequences like there not being one big opening ceremony and everything being spread around a bunch of small Olympic 'villages'/accomodations - so not really the Olympic feeling and atmosphere for the athletes since they'll mostly just stay around athletes of their own sport as in any regular competition.   We'll be going very near to the Olympic area in a few weeks (Coppa Italia in Falcade), let's see what things look like by then.
    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory
