Surreal reacted to Epic Failure in GB Swimming
Agreed @Surreal. We know from the various years of experience that Aquatics GB will require whatever time they set to be done in the final of trials for that year's competition, so what athletes are doing this year matters only for their goals for this year.
It's also worth remembering that not only is there a Euros team to be picked, but there are multiple CG teams to make, as well as a European Jnrs (as well as the para swimmers obv).
I'm trying to keep track of who is doing what (which is complicated because i don't always know who is English, who is Welsh, who is from Jersey etc ).
But at a rough estimate I reckon 22 able bodied swimmers did enough today that they could get a call up for one team or another this summer. Not shabby for day 1.

Surreal got a reaction from Epic Failure in GB Swimming
I'd expect those going to Europeans as part of the relay will also have a chance to race individually so it doesnt really matter.
Agree about Clark, but going 0.6 slower than your PB over a 50 is disappointing.
Hitting the OQT is irrelevant until 2028 trials, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Entries for the Edinburgh swim meet can be found here:
https://swimswam.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/draft-programme-for-web.pdf
Peaty's first Long Course races since the Paris Olympics! All other GB stars are present too (apart from those competing in the NCAA).
Some of them (Morgan, Dean, Colbert etc.) are coming straight from 3 weeks of altitude training in Arizona so it'll be interesting to see where they're at.
I think most will then compete at the Giant Open in France next weekend.

I do agree with this (this was also the case in Beijing to an extent) but is better to have 5 medals and a lot of near misses than if we completely maximised performance and come away with 5
Things look generally very much on the up when it comes to winter sports in this country

MOST AND LEAST PREDICTABLE SPORTS
Below is a graph that shows you how we did as a group in the individual sports. The lower the number, the lower the predictability. The higher the number, the higher the predictability.
As for scoring, a score of 66% means on average, we guessed two medallists correctly, but the third medallist was not guessed at all.
A score of 50% means that we got one medallist completely correct, and then got the placement wrong for one other medallist, and the third medallist was unknown. Or, it could mean we guessed the three podium finishers, just in the wrong order.
A score of 33% means that we got one medallist correct, but the other two were not guessed at all (even for other medals).
I think our top and bottom finishers are to be expected.
MOST AND LEAST PREDICTABLE DISCIPLINES
Events where we guessed the Gold Medallist 100%:
Events where we guessed the Gold Medallist 0% (nobody guessed it correctly, but maybe for another medal):
Our Average Gold Medal Correct Guess was 45%
Our Least Predictable Disciplines:
Our Most Predictable Disiplines:
Our average, across all disciplines, for total podium makeup is 48%.
Full Discipline Results by Predictability:
What I learned this Olympics: Though there are favorites...the Olympics causes anything to happen!
Thanks for playing, everyone! I won't be doing this in the future, as it took away from my enjoyment of the Olympics somewhat (both in the hosting and the predicting myself), but I look forward to the next Olympics cycle!

Hello, welcome to Team GB Debrief, a chance for us to yammer, unfortunately, in the past tense, about Team GB at the Milan and Cortina Olympics.
Leaderboard
Anticlimactically, I won on 44 points, beating @Surreal and @Jonwho share silver on 42. @cjsavorytook 31, with @G-annin fifth with 27.
Medals
3/1/1
A great Games for us in general and definitely the best Winter Games in living memory for most of us. Still a few near-misses which I think a lot of people would say is a positive for the future. I was happy the forum stayed active throughout

That would be insane, cant see it happening. There's already a sliding track in La Plagne basically ready for Olympic competition so it doesn't make any sense.
Getting rid of a historic sport like bobsleigh would surely also get a lot of backlash despite the German domination.
-
Surreal reacted to De_Gambassi in Winter Olympic Games French Alps 2030 Sports Programme
I don't think there is such a rumor, it's more of a point to show how weak german results are outside of these sports (the media here is a one-guy operation anyway).
The sports will be okay for 2030 and 2034 as the facilities are already there. Later on, there might be an interrogation point as german domination is structurally guaranteed to last forever...

They have had a bit of bad luck in this event in the past with falls etc, so it is well-deserved. Like I've said before, I think Joe Davies is the man who will break through next time. Anna Pryce can also be a top-10 finisher.

Actually it's way too confusing for the most part (I'll keep doing calculations for a bit and we'll see..) but are also mathematically alive and need to win their remaining matches (they take on each other, and China has Czechia, so it's doable)
actually needs only one of to lose both of their games against along with the US win, they still have a chance if there's a logjam at 4-5 but you wouldn't favour them.
