Well, with all of these sport combined, you barely have more events that swimming.

So if karate and other sports added should swimming or athletics events reduced to 20 -25?

Eight teams in Synchro diving has been the case since they came in for Sydney so not a victim of recent cuts or anything.

Doesn't make it great.

I think the mixed relay in athletics needs unlimited changes like all the other relays.

If they must have mixed relays I would prefer a new distance that doesn't already have a relay. Maybe 800m. Why is it that the 400 m runners deserves two?

Yea. I also never understood why they don't allow countries who qualify 2 in the individual event the option to pair up in synchro.

Men's football should be down to 12 teams.

Agree. And its not that hard to do it in terms of the qualification process. 3 places for Europe, 2 North America, 2 South America, 2 Asia, 2 Africa and 1 Oceania. Its still pretty equal and balanced.

Taekwondo mixed team might be a nice addition, especially given the scoring system might allow for teams with some exceptional athletes to have a higher weighting compared to the judo mixed team.

Football down to 12 teams or even eight. No one cares about it at Olympics. Although I love football, I don’t even know who won the medals as it’s basically a junior event.

Karate no, most boring event I watched.
to compare taekwondo with karate shows you have no clue. Actually I think taekwondo needs more quota as it is one of the most universal sports at Olympics. 16 per category is too little considering they merge categories for Olympics. Same for wrestling.

Boxing out, too much corruption. They need a break.

Penthatlon out. Without equestrian will be a joke event.

cricket, I don’t need it, but let’s see how it works in LA.

baseball: if the Major league doesn’t participate out, would mean out for softball as well.

sports as fencing and gymnastics need a new qualification system as it favors too much the big nations/teams.

artistic swimming out if there is no male event. Same applies unfortunatly to GR wrestling. And Rhytmic gymnastics. If we want equality then everywhere please.

cyling track: too many events, cut it.

I think squash deserves a chance. Breaking is gone good. Flag football is a joke. Padel will come in 2032 or 36, great to watch.

and we need a different qualification system in general for Australia/NZL, too many free quotas.

I think there's a big drop off from the top 4-5 teams in the synchro events. There's no benefit, in my mind, to adding more teams.

What I like about synchro is that it's one and done. I think the individual diving events could drop the semis. I get their purpose, but it's just a lot. Should be like athletics, 18 divers get to the final and after 3 dives it gets cut to the top 8. Or something like that.

I'll eventually add my thoughts on the whole programme, but generally I like having more sports, less filler within each sport (i.e. semis in diving, 200m swimming).

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
