It’s kind of insane the US won *5* of the *6* X Games events added in Sochi and still only ended up with only 9 gold medals.

I think the US is comfortably looking at around 10 golds.

Well lindsey was out, shiffrin wasn't yet comfortable with anything but the slalom and speed skating was a big dissapointment

il y a 1 minute, Maxim Fastovsky a déclaré:

but why is world cup rankings accurate? not everyone participating in every world cup, Lindsey Vonn was out most of the season and look at her now, she is not the favorite according to the rankings, but are you going to bet against her after winning 3 in a row? you dont take into account all the parameters if you include only world cup rankings.

This is not about individual cases... that's not the point. Sure, Vonn has a probably higher chance than the 25% of winning the gold given here, but other americans probably have too high of a percentage of chance of victory for the exact same reason. The belief beeing that - at the end - things will balance each other (I reckon, it would work better with the Summer OG and higher numbers).

The world cup rankings are not necesseraly accurate, but they are the most accurates datas to work with. (I was tempting to make a mix of 2017 & 2018 world, cup rankings and 2017 world championships but it was getting too complex fot what it is).

Ideally, you would have a irrefutable, non arguable, list of the top x favorites in each event. But no one has that.

Another 15 Russians going to CAS, after the 32 of yesterday. This time it's the Legkov's, Tretiakov's and Albert Demchenko's of the world (ie those from Sochi 2014 who got their bans overturned).

http://www.tas-cas.org/fileadmin/user_upload/Media_Release_AHD4_AnnounceAHDcase3_Updatecase2.pdf

@vovanA Any idea what's up with Viktoria Demchenko? She's not on the list of 32 who appealed to CAS yesterday (even though the likes of Shipulin and Ustiugov are, who got banned by the IOC in the same 'sweep' as V Demchenko), and she's not on today's list of 15 as well...that's kind of odd, isn't it?

She was sick and didn't take part in European championships. I guess she's still not well.

Bring back the 1991 borders

That's a shame, with her in the team the fight for the team medals would be a lot more interesting..

Statement from WADA Athlete Committee

"As members of the WADA Athlete Committee, we wish to express our profound disappointment and dismay with the recent ruling by CAS to reinstate the medals and results of 28 Russian winter Olympians from Sochi, previously disqualified for doping offences.

We share the distress, uncertainty and frustration expressed by many athletes on the news of this ruling and believe this decision to be a massive setback for clean sport.

We stand by and renew our call (made 9 August 2017, London, UK) for “the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to improve and strengthen its independence and continually strive to increase the quality of its arbitrators”.

We cannot lose sight of the extent nor the scale of the efforts that Russian authorities and athletes engaged in to cheat the anti-doping system. Thus, we call for stronger leadership from sport to protect clean athletes and their right to doping-free sport.

It is vital that athletes, countries, teams and officials that cheat be held fully accountable and sanctioned accordingly. For this reason, we call for a transparent and comprehensive review of how the McLaren reports of the doping conspiracy in Russia were handled. We welcome a thorough discussion on this topic at the next WADA Foundation Board meeting".

These people will never calm down. Beckie Scott keeps on stinking and barking. This is open pressure on the court and the accusation of judges of incompetence and bias. CAS should make decisions that only Becky Scott likes, WADA and those who are behind them. It passes all the rules of law and all boundaries. The SHAME

I am also willing to bet quite a bit that Beckie Scott’s crusade against Russian athletes has literally nothing to do with Putin and is rather entirely due to Olga Danilova and Larisa Lazutina...

Ок, So you confirm that she is engaged in revenge? Her hatred of Danilova and Lazutina doesnt give her the right to take revenge on the country and innocent athletes. At the head of international organization is a rascal russophobe, who destroys clean athletes, because of a sense of revenge. And all justify this lawlessness

    • That's so they can play in both venues in Canada.  Will mean that the UEFA Path A winner has to go from Toronto to Los Angeles and then up to Seattle.   Someone was bound to draw the short straw in that group since 4 of the matches are Central, but 2 are in Santa Clara.  Unfortunately, that's Algeria.
