Swimming at the Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

After Carson Foster's 1:43 split in Doha I wouldn't be surprised if he can go 1:44 flat start which puts the US much closer to GBR. GBR won't be able to get away with having a leg underperform like in Tokyo.

Completely forgot about Foster and that he wasn't able to swim this event at trials. Thanks. He should be on the finals team.

Although the heats schedule hasn't come out yet, it's possible to estimate the start times with some simple math. If we assume that there's going to be 8 swimmers per heat like in past Olympics, then dividing the # of entries by 8 and rounding up should give us the # of heats. Then using the 2024 World Aquatics Championships schedule, we can divide the length of each event by the number of heats to get a rate. The results are below.

It'll be interesting to see how the women's 800m and 1500m freestyle heats will be done. There's 17 entries in each event which means if there's 8 swimmers per heat, there'll be 3 heats in total. However, the unseeded heat would only have 1 swimmer. They might just move them to one of the seeded heats so there's 9+8 swimmers in the two heats. Otherwise, we might end up with an Eric the Eel situation in both events.

Only issue with this is that some swimmers are inexplicably not entered with their best times. McKeown entered the 2IM with her time from Nationals and not Trials. Her trials time would have made her top seed but instead she is second seed, so really AUS should be +1 gold and USA -1

World Aquatics said it is closely monitoring the Chinese swimmers who will participate in the Paris Games, using increasingly frequent checks by the International Testing Agency. There is talk of at least eight checks from 1 January 2024 until the end of the five-ring event.

Don’t see the point. They have been caught before and nothing happened. They should use their money more wisely and test some athletes from small/irrelevant nations that they can easily ban without any backlash. For example: Crooks, Jaouadi, Tuncelli, Meilutyte, Schoenmaker

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Not sure if these are reliable but I found these on LeMonde with the breakdown of heats, not only in swimming:

Unfortunately, I don't think that's accurate. There's no way there'll be 6 heats of the women's 200m butterfly when there's only 19 swimmers, or at least I hope not.

Too good to be true :d. Like I said, wasn’t sure if they were reliable but I think you’ve just confirmed they are irrelevant :d

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same

Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
