Add new zealand to that, their ball control is clicking, happy for ireland really hope they medal/go all the way

Ireland/New Zealand will face Fiji in QF though.

Not necessarily, we're assuming that Fiji will hold their form into tomorrow and that France won't find theirs. Both big assumptions. The last round of pool games have the position deciders - :IRL  vs  :NZL , :FIJ vs :FRA and :ARG vs :AUS. And that's assuming that :RSA don't do something here.

Yeah, unless France beats Fiji but cannot see that happen.

Day -2 and HBO/Eurosport already seems to be using one of those generic commentators for the rugby (the woman, in this case) :p

"What I love so much about the Olympics, is the stories of resilience of these athletes."

Ok, sure....but the stories are the same in their regular circuit events (whether that's World Cups, World Series or some league or another), just not nearly as many people care :p

On the evidence of today, no. On the evidence of the season as a whole, maybe. Fiji have been very inconsistent this year.

Fiji will only lose if teams get physical with them and play very direct. If you let them have too much space, no chance in beating them. Argentina, France, Ireland and NZ are all very physical and these 4 teams have caused them problems for the past olympic cycle.

I've never watched Rugby 7s before, but I had a great time watching :FRA - :URU , :FIJ - :USA and :IRL - :JPN today!

Incredible idea that :FIJ could once again win the whole thing. They're really becoming Olympic icons (tradition even) if they keep this up. I gotta say I enjoyed :IRL as well, hope they medal too!

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
