They have 20+ federations however, + other countries like Canada/USA probably voted to include since its on the Olympic program.

Curious to see what an 8 team tournament would be made up of for each gender. I am all for it if it gives the smaller Caribbean countries chances to qualify a team such as :CAY and :BER

Yeah, for the purpose of the Pan Am Games (and the Olympics) the West Indies team will be separate so there are in fact a lot of teams that could compete.

If we have an 8-team tournament we'd likely see host :PER join :BAR:CAN:GUY:JAM:TTO:USA for both the men and women's tournaments with :BER and :BRA rounding out the men's and women's teams respectively. :ARG:CAY or maybe one of the minor West Indies nations could also qualify

Just confirmed with PanamSports, basketball being removed is not an error, its legitimate.

Im shocked.

Did they give a reason for basketball’s non inclusion? It’s baffling that Pan Am Sports would remove the sport.

I have heard FIBA demanded an U-20 tournament, which Panamsports refused to entertain.

Since we're still waiting for the qualification documents for almost all sports (hopefully they will be released during their general meeting in August), here's an overview of the quotas available at the Pan American Junior Games.

The first set of quotas are awarded to the gold medalists of the following events. These are tied to the athlete by name. Should their respective NOC decline the quota or the athlete is selected from a different quota, then the quota is lost and will not be reallocated to the silver medalist.

Archery - M&W Individual Recurve, M&W Individual Compound

Athletics - All individual events (38 total)

Badminton - M&W Singles

Canoeing - M K1 1000m, W K1 500m, M C1 1000m, W C1 200m

Cycling - M&W BMX Freestyle, M&W BMX Race, M&W Cross-Country, M&W Road Race, M&W Time Trial, M&W Individual Sprint, M&W Keirin, M&W Omnium

Diving - M&W 1m Springboard, M&W 3m Springboard, M&W Platform

Fencing - M&W Individual Epee, M&W Individual Foil, M&W Individual Sabre

Golf - M&W Individual

Gymnastics - M&W Artistic Individual All-Around, W Rhythmic Individual All-Around, M&W Individual Trampoline

Judo - M -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, 100kg, and +100kg, W -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, -78kg, and +78kg

Karate - M -60kg, -67kg, -75kg, -84kg, and +84kg, W -50kg, -55kg, -61kg, -68kg, and +68kg

Rowing - M&W Single Sculls

Sailing - M ILCA 7, W ILCA 6, M&W iQFoil, M&W Formula Kite

Shooting - M&W 10m Air Rifle, M&W 10m Air Pistol, M&W Trap, M&W Skeet

Skating - M&W Artistic Freestyle, M&W 200m Time Trial, M&W 500m+Distance, M&W 1000m Sprint, M&W 10,000m Elimination, M&W Street Skateboarding

Squash - M&W Individual

Swimming - All individual events, including open water swimming (30 total)

Table Tennis - M&W Singles

Taekwondo - M -58kg, -68kg, -80kg, and +80kg, W -49kg, -57kg, -67kg, and +67kg, M&W Individual Poomsae

Tennis - M&W Singles

Triathlon - M&W Individual

Water Skiing - M&W Trick, M&W Slalom, M&W Jumps, M&W Overall, M&W Wakeboard

Weightlifting - All individual events (10 total)

Wrestling - M Freestyle -57kg, -65kg, -74kg, -86kg, -97kg, and -125kg, M Greco-Roman -60kg, -67kg, -77kg, -87kg, -97kg, and -130kg, W Freestyle -50kg, -53kg, -57kg, -62kg, -68kg, and -76kg

The second set of quotas are awarded to the gold medalists of the following events. These are given to the NOC where they may select athletes not from the gold medal winning team. If the quota is declined by the NOC, it will not be reallocated to the silver medalist.

Field Hockey - M&W Tournament

Handball - M&W Tournament

Rugby Sevens - M&W Tournament

In volleyball, things are a bit different, the quotas in M&W Beach Volleyball and M&W Indoor Volleyball will be given to the highest ranked teams in CSV and NORCECA.

Funny enough, the gold medalists of 3x3 basketball would have qualified, but the sport has been dropped.

Bowling and racquetball have been added back on the sports program.

Very nice. These are very cheap sports to host with a long history at the Pan American Games so I'm glad they remain.

Too bad FIBA won't let us host a senior tournament

Official logo, "a design that highlights its identity, the road to Los Angeles 2028, and the most important symbol of Peruvians, Machu Picchu". Sadly I don't think the result was very good...

    • The tournament is over for Mathilde Fantin – unfortunately, a big loss for the Italy. Tomorrow we play a semifinal against France – if we win, we'll have a grand final against Hungary on Friday. Everything will be clear then, bacouse the final match against China should be a formality. In any case, we've already achieved our best result ever in our history, or at worst scenario – 3rd place in Division 1A.

    • Super runner, good guy, sadly never entirely recovered from ripping his leg to shreds in the act of going sub 10, but as you say a key relay man for the better part of a decade, and a European and World Champion, and a reminder that talent doesn't always come in obvious looking boxes -a breakthrough sprint athlete for many of middle eastern and north african heritage.

    • Duno. To me the most interesting question is the short term is whether Poilievre survives this or not. It will be tough for him to justify his leadership.
    • Wonder if they'll get a couple more floor crossers to strengthen their majority.
