Marián Hossa will be inducted alongside of Jarome Iginla, Kevin Lowe, Doug Wilson, and Kim St-Pierre and Builder Ken Holland  into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on November 16, 2020 :)

Marián Hossa becomes just the third Slovakian player to be inducted after slovak born canadian world star Stan Mikita and Peter Šťastný. His IIHF career and NHL career were equally brilliant. In the former, he played in eight World Championships, four Olympics, and two World Cups, distinguishing himself as one of the greatest players ever to come out of Slovakia. In the NHL, he recorded 525 goals and 1,134 points in 19 seasons. He spent the final eight years of his career with Chicago, winning the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

Congrats Majo ! we are all proud of you :cheer:

one of the toughest, most ingenious and craziest goals in history in the WOG history.

My very first total WTF moment when watching ice hockey, was after realizing how he scored this goal.

Pure genius

Compilation of some of his most memorable goals, enjoy

  • 1 month later...

earlier today, finally the great game of Hockey made its official comeback on the European rinks...

the new KHL season started in fact as planned in Moscow, with a nice matchup between CSKA Moscow and AK Bars Kazan...

the game ended just a few minutes ago and AK Bars got a surprising win, 3-2 at the overtime...

the first goal of the season, however, was scored after only 51 seconds of play by CSKA's Dmitry Samorukov...but AK Bars was able to make up for that in the 2nd period...

then, a bit of fireworks happened in the third period, with CSKA getting the lead back after only 2 minutes of play in the period, but once again AK Bars didn't lose their minds and tied the match with about 7 minutes still on the clock...

finally, only 1.31 mins into the OT, Dmitry Voronkov scored the game winner for the team from Tatarstan...

p.s. the game was played in front of a limited crowd of 2,347 because of the covid-19 protocol...

here's the game script (and links to the official stats...YT's comprehensive highlights are not available yet, only the single actions videos are already published on the official KHL website)...

https://text.khl.ru/en/872319.html

now we have the highlights of the game, too...:d

And First troubles in the KHL.

The hockey team of Jokerit Helsinki did not fly to Belarus for their opening match of the new KHL season, against Dinamo Minsk, schedulled today at 17:10 CET in Minsk.

The whole team decided to boycott the match because of current political situation in Belarus. The KHL authorities has confirmed on its website that Thursday's duel will not take place (without explaining the reason though ).

The Finnish club first announced that it would fly to Minsk this afternoon, play the game, spend only eight hours in the Belarusian capital and return after midnight back home. However, the original decision to join Minsk caused strong criticism in Finland.

The Jokerit fan club threatened their club with strong boycott of the team's home matches if they will play this match.  Jokerit leaders then submitted and announced they will boycott the matches against Dinamo Minsk

British Ice Hockey announces suspension of 2020-21 Season - not financially viable under current conditions.

Sadly leaves the whole sport in uncertainty, after Team GB had made the World Top 16 for the first time in decades.

very little is sufficient for unleashing a brawl in hockey. :d  Another convincing prove of that happened in our hockey Extraliga as well. Before the start of the 3rd period, when the players returned to the ice and performed their usual warm-up on their halves of the pitch suddenly from nowhere a Poprad player began to warm-up slowly in the opponent's half, the guests took it as a provocation..:p

still, a bunch of amateurs...

I still remember (I was there) the epic brawl between HC Milano and VSV Villach in the last (senseless, the rankings were already established) match of the regular season of the Alpenliga 1991...

they all came together in the pre-game warm-up...:yikes:

and since the refs and stewards were not on the ice yet, it took the police to step up and try to stop that brawl (which actually went on for quite a while...a good quarter of a hour at least)...

how much I miss those glorious days!  :d

huh ?

Covid-19 Ice Hockey Minor leagues games suggested to be without Face-Offs or Bodychecking, Matches played only 4 on 4 or 3 on 3. At the start of the period the visitors team will have the puck, the host team will have to stay behind their blue line, they can start to play when the ref whistle   https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/ohl-bodychecking-provincial-government-1.5754187

    • Agreed. But OTOH, the chances of a Male Team pursuit medal also seem rather slim at the moment, so why the hassle of dropping someone.
