Cross-Country Skiing 2020 - 2021 Discussion Thread

Norway seems to miss all World Cup races until the World Championships https://www.dagbladet.no/sport/norge-stopper-alt-for-vm/73150191

And the FIS will not cut the Programme of the Tour de Ski, so I think Finland and Sweden will not participate.

I'm sure this will improve TV ratings vs. having a smaller tour that Finland and Sweden participate in.

Good thing for the sport, at least cross-country skiing will be more interesting and competitive for other nations.

If Sweden does not participate, you mean? Because otherwise...not so much :p (for the women, at least)

The Italian specialist press is putting pressure on the federation to join the boycott of the Scandinavian nations. It is now clear that this is a political boycott against cross-country FIS and that covid has little to do with it

Wait, the 'it's a political boycott' was not a joke? What's the goal of the Big Bad West Scandinavia then other than world domination?

Because yes, COVID raises very much valid concerns in terms of preparing for competitions when having to go in mandatory quarantaine for ten days every time you get out of country X or Y.

According to the Italian press, the Nordic federations have found an excuse to try to blow up the leaders of the sector. Also because, the combinatists and the jumpers, who do more good or bad the same number of movements, continue to thank. At the center of the controversy there would be the bad management of the last decades and a situation that seems unsustainable

Not only the Nordic federations then, by the sounds of it. FIS people screwing up wouldn't be much of a surprise of course, to be honest :p

Wow, I knew Steve had been working well lately (the guy is an absolute unit in terms of size and power), but had no idea he'd compete in the World Cup :d

He does live in Switzerland though (not far from Davos even if I'm not mistaken).
