Another shocking result: among the men, the group win in four of the six groups was determined by a withdrawal, all on the same day. That rarely happens. Herrara/Gavira :ESP , Evans/Budinger :USA , Perusic/Schweiner :CZE and Hodges/Schubert :AUS all suddenly injured?

It's nothing special. All of them are in top 16.

Really shocking result at the Stare Jablonki Challenge, with :UKR Davidova/Khmil defeating :CHN Xue/Xia :yikes:

Oh, I totally love that:

  • Khmil is the world junior champion with Lazarenko, they split up due to Angelina's study at the US university.
  • Now Lazarenko decided to play with Hladun, who played with Lunina. Lunina played a few tournaments with Lazarenko
  • Khmil now pairs up with Valentina Davidova (girls, where were you earlier), who played with Baieva. Baieva played a few tournaments with Lazarenko

Our beach volleyball is total mess and that's why we don't have any pair at the Olympics. Our biggest contenders, Popov and Reznik, are out of Olympics due to Reznik's injury.

Not really sure on the rules for walkovers in beach volleyball (it’s very much possible that you have to at least have a small injury), but this happens quite a lot during Challenges.  If you win your first pool game, you automatically advance to the next round no matter what, and winning/losing your 2nd pool game had no impact on bracket seeding so many teams forfeit.

I’ll do some research and report back.

Yes, I read something about that a few weeks ago...

they tried to strenghten the rule about withdrawals, but it looks they didn't get any result...

frankly, they have to change format (and make clear that if a pair doesn't play a game at any stage, they're out of the whole tournament)

I know TV networks would hate it, but going back to the good old double elimination table draw (no more group stages) would force the players to try and win every match

:CUB Diaz/Alayo with an incredible run that puts them in Olympic qualifying position! (and very hard that they lose it in Ostrava)

They’ve been podiuming all season long, so I’m not sure how it’s an incredible run, but it’s a good result for them :d

Olympic qualification has been looking likely for them ever since a couple events ago or so though.
