Is it just me, but it seems that if you have a last name that begins with "H" in Germany, and are a female, you have a much better chance in biathlon.

Well, Simone Hauswald had better results than Simone Denkinger so maybe you're onto something

The Swiss Summer Biathlon Championship was held this past weekend in Andermatt.

Sprint Results 4.5km/6km are here.  Results of note, Sebastian Stalder was only .7 behind Benny Wegner.  On the women's side, 2 of the 3 Gasparin sisters raced.

Short Individual results are here.  Aita Gasparin won the womens   Stalder won the men's with Sergi Seminov of the Ukraine in 2nd.

Last event was "Hit the Peak".  Just look at this.  The women run a 4.5km and men 6k up the mountain on roads, then finish with the last part what seems like it is just up.

@RobtheAggie that “Hit the Peak” event reminds me of the Red Bull 400. The Red Bull 400 is a 400m race up a ski jumping large (K125, K120, etc.). I think it’s a creative idea. I always wanted to run a 5km that was completely uphill. I never had the speed to be a good cross country runner, but I had/have very good endurance, and I enjoy hilly terrain.

Yes, I ran Redbull 400 in Planica three times, it is brutal.

Probably the hardest hill too because of it’s size.

I would absolutely love to do a Red Bull 400 one day, but the closest race to me is probably Park City.

Meanwhile in Slovakia, this race has obviously the finish in the "Ski Jumping hill" of Štrbské Pleso. The competition is each year supposed as a success if the hill still does not fail

However as a part of summer training preparation of our canoe slalom team, this year Jakub Grigar among mens and Jana Dukátová among womens competed pretty well

Video documentary of the 2020 edition (remember the Štrbské Pleso one is quite hard also because of the altitude)

Upcoming IBU Vote - The article talks about what Canada will do with the loss of the IBU Junior Cup and the early IBU Cup races.  But near the end is the nugget.

"Currently, the full BMW IBU World Cup schedule is going ahead as planned. However, the IBU executive board is meeting from Sept. 26-27 to decide whether adjustments will be made to the world cup’s November and December events.

Wadsworth said there is a concern similar changes could be made to the world cup circuit. His gut feeling is that the races before Christmas will be scaled back."

Wadsworth is the head coach of the Canadian National Biathlon Team.

I think that this is also the meeting where the IBU World Championships are awarded.  I do not remember if the new locations for the IBU Cup will be announced as well.  You wonder how many people will travel to China for that race.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
