So COVID closures are starting to affect the fall/winter sports.  Norway's planned fall camp in France at altitude might be moved it Italy or cancelled competley.  Sweden also announced that they will not have an out of the country training camp this fall.

Neither will Brazil, they've been preparing for the COVID crisis for years and have now perfected the art of avoiding any kind of serious training camps :)

There's hope to see one or two Brazilians compete in IBU Cups though, if they're allowed to travel.

Stina Nilsson injured her elbow and she will have to stop for six weeks.

Welp, this will be a dent in the experiment for sure

So an update with Nilsson, she will still be able to train, but without poles.  She fell on rollerskis while going down a hill.  To be honest that could have happened if she was training for Nordic skiing only.  So this is not a sport specific injury.  It does put her six weeks behind on shooting though, which is where she had the most to learn.

Now for the random news of the day:

The Turkish Biathlon team has training, but like other nations can not travel.  So they are making the best of their situation.

Last in Belarus, where their soccer/football league did not stop during the Spring shutdown, over 30k children participated in youth activities this summer, including biathlon.  Why is this important, I think that fewer than 30k Americans have done the sport total since 1956 when the first race in the US was held.

Caught up with Blink Biathlon from 2 weeks ago. The YT vid is very confusing because it’s mixed up with CC skiing but it’s all there.

Another round of random news:

The Romanian team grew by three as Anastasia Tolmacheva, Anatoly Oskin and Elena Chirkova all had their switch from Russia to Romania approved.  Tolmacheva is the youngest and maybe the best known.  Here are their exploits - "Elena Chirkova is the owner of two bronze medals of the 2019 Universiade in Krasnoyarsk. Anastasia Tolmacheva is a two-time bronze medalist of the 2017 Russian Championship, and Anatoly Oskin took part in the 2013 Summer World Championship."

Biathlon Canada posted on their facebook page:

Image may contain: text that says 'SOMETHING NEW IS ON ITS WAY...'

Whatever the new and exciting thing is, it will be announced on Wednesday.

Not sure how much we can trust this Serbian site, but Darya Domracheva was apparently a Belarussian special spy of KGB (in Belarussian KDB) :mumble:

Have heard before that Domracheva was a Chekist, don’t know how true it is...I suppose we will have to go back and see if there was an annual pattern of mysterious shootings of Belarussian dissidents in Ostersund in December, Munich in January, Oslo in March etc.  :mumble:

I think most people know that Dinamo Moscow was the KGB club back in the day, can’t remember what the Czechoslovak one was...

we didn't have any such club, at least it wasn't publicly known. :mumble:

However, Dukla was the names of the Military clubs, during Communism era, all athletes spend their mandatory two-year military service  in the barracks of these military clubs.

With the best athletes send to the most famous and bigger Dukla Prague, In Slovakia we had(still have) Dukla Banská Bystrica or the Ice Hockey famous club Dukla Trenčín for example

    • I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow.   Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least.   I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow.   Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
