Italy’s Davis Cup title?? Really??

All of the Italians probably voted for that moment.

In general, the “moments of the year” are pretty generic and favor the major sports :(

I know we’re at the second stage of voting, but I can’t believe all of us forgot about :SWE Niklas Edin’s spinner against Norway at the Men’s Curling World Championships.

That beats out all my other sporting moment nominees for sure.

I believe it's not a bad thing the sport moment of the year is from a major sport. These are the sports that most of us watch, the memories that we share. Even if a moment in a smaller sport was exciting for me, as a community these big moments on swimming, athletics, tennis, etc. unite us.

That said, my personal sport moment of the year (MvdP road cycling world championship) isn't nominated. But in the end nothing beats watching that incredible race together with my dad, just like when I was young.

That's a matter of opinion of course. As someone who is neither Italian nor a big follower of tennis, I very much find it understandable given the historic value of it. Much more so than for example one of gazillion swimming relays, but that's the thing: other people might value that one more, and that's fine too :p

Yeah, too bad, definitely one of my all-time highlights in sports. I even decided to wake Bruna up from her post-training nap because I felt this was such a historic moment, she really shouldn't miss it :d

It is fun to see everyone's opinions though. Plenty of people won't even know this happened, while someone else's sports moments (like the Edin one mentioned) may make me go "Huh?" in return :p

    • Team Size Prediction for Winter Olympic Games 2026 Milano Cortina   Let's do this for a country that is not actually that good in winter sports as well as our Olympic Committee Declining lots of places. • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
