Looks like the mess about Canadian dressage selections is still not over. Remember, the story was that Canadian judge Elizabeth McMullen gave higer scores to Megan Lane (and Chris von Martels) so that they can overtake Karen Pavicic in Olympic selection rankings.

Quote

At the heart of the case is a statement allegedly made by Elizabeth McMullen, president of the ground jury at the event, to a retired judge: “I marked those two (Lane and [Chris] Von Martels) up to knock Karen Pavicic out, as I don’t like her horse’s contact and do not want her going to Rio.”

Karen finished behind Megan in selection rankings by the tiniest of margins.

We'll take a look at few memorable Olympic performances while doing a countdown to Rio (8 days to go btw :p).

We start with Nicole Uphoff (GER) and her legendary horse Rembrandt, and their individual gold medal winning performance from the 1992 Olympics. This was the fourth Olympic gold medal for this combination. Although Nicole was only 25 at the time, she decided to end her competitive career quite early for a dressage rider (1996 Olympics were her last big competition).

Nicole & Rembrandt were often described as a "living work of art", and you can very much see why is that in this video.

@dcro Do you have any predictions on how our talen, Cathrine Dufour will do? She posted some pretty impressive scores at the Danish Championships :)

Yes, she is very good but unfortunately her horse Cassidy can get "hot" in front of big crowds. Such thing happened in Aachen this month when they got "only" 71% (there's more in the bag for them).

Deodoro arena should be less intimidating than Aachen, so hopefully she'll be able to show her potential. On a good day she should get technical score of 76-77% I think, what is a very good standard. But, yeah, because of Cassidy's hotness her scores are harder to predict (within the last year her scores ranged from 64% to 79%).

Thanks. Didn't know about that :)

I remembered this video about her from last year. Interesting how she says that Olympics seem so distant to her. :d

Well, she said to Danish Media that she only believed in it after the Danish Championships

Kathryn Robinson to replace Selena O'Hanlon on Canada's eventing team

I'm kinda glad for Kathryn. It turned out that she was initially on team but then lost her place to Jessica Phoenix after an appeal.

    • Team Challenge   The theme for this years team challenge will be counties in the UK. For equal representation, I have selected at least 1 county for each of the 4 main countries that make up the UK. The 7 selected counties where drawn into each of the 7 teams.    The draw result:      Here is a little factfile on each of the 7 counties:    Team Merseyside Rank # Total 0 0 0 0 0 0   Merseyside is an English county located in the North West region of the UK. It's biggest settlements include Liverpool, Southport St Helens and Birkenhead. Merseyside is know for it's music and sport, with bands like The Beatles and The Coral and clubs like Everton and Liverpool all coming from the county.
    • Team Challenge   For this years team challenge every country will be split up into 7 groups of 5. Now if  don't have to be withdrawn then every team members points will count, but if they do then only the top 4 team members results. After 10 votes the team with the least amount of points is eliminated, after that a team will be eliminated after every 5 votes.    The teams were drawn automatically using a random draw generator. All the countries were split into 5 different pots based off the all time ranking medals list followed by the participations list.     Pot 1 Pot 2 Pot 3 Pot 4 Pot 5 France New Zealand China Argentina Albania Canada Czech Republic Hungary Bulgaria Chile Great Britain Denmark Malta Tunisia Guatemala Ireland Lithuania Mexico Greece Indonesia Italy Serbia Brazil India Turkey Netherlands Spain Romania Poland Moldova Sweden United States Slovenia Slovenia Portugal   The Draw Results:
    • In terms of the first table, there were 2 clubs missing that are/could be apart of the Professional/Semi Professional English League system.    The first are the Wigan Warriors (club logo above), they play in Super League (1st Division) and are the defending back to back Super League champions. Not quite sure how I forgot to add them, but somehow I did.    The second are the Bedford Tigers (club logo above). They originally weren't set to join the system from non league but there are strong rumours that they are now set to join League 1 (3rd Division), replacing the aforementioned Cornwall.

A big thanks to @Belle and @Henry_Leon for helping out. The provisional schedule will be up in due course as well as the results of the team comp draw.

    • And the last 3 as well to finish all the draw.
