I wonder how long until FIS considers opening the alpine skiing season in Chile...

Yeah, the whole Zermatt thing sounds great, but didn't work out so well...still curious if they can try it in a different time of year perhaps.

Chile would be awesome though, it's the World Cup, it shouldn't be utterly impossible to have something like a back-to-back weekend in Chile + Argentina every few years (and one in Oceania on some other years). "But our training schedules!"...yeah, adapt. You're an athlete.

There have been Freestyle World Cups in :NZL in August before….takes a bit of organising though.

according to the "classic" conditions you can find on a glacier, late March/early April would be perfect (even if we can't be sure of anything about weather nowadays)

well, it happened quite regularly in the 80's...speed races in :ARG Las Lenas and technical disciplines in :AUS and :NZL

but then the powerful European (actually, Austrian and Swiss) sponsors and TV networks, the increasing travelling costs which strangled the small teams and the same "Southern" locations being reluctant to spend money to improve the infrastructure on site convinced the FIS to scratch those events from the WC calendar

which is a shame

Yeah, I can especially see Swiss, Italian, Austrian, German, Norwegian TV and so on be rather unhappy with it, so I don't actually see it happen, but it would be awesome :p

Too bad there's maximum altitude rules in the World Cup, otherwise biathlon and/or cross-country could go to Portillo at nearly 3000m where South American championships have regularly been held....that'd be something :d  I know alpine has had world champs there, but an endurance event...oof :p
