Today i read that one german state alone (Nordrhein-Westfalen) has already treated 39 patients from the Netherlands and that the number dramatically increased over the past week. Are your hospitals overrun? They are not, no. As of now there are roughly 1400 people in intensive care, which is around 250 more than the number of available beds before all this. Since people saw a rise coming of course, they tried to stretch the capability to at least 2400, which I think more or less worked out, and the expected peak of 2000+ didn't happen (yet?), so although it is of course hard work, ICU's are still being able to keep up and numbers have been slowly going down for a couple days. . Gianlu33 4,552 Posted April 13, 2020 #2793 Share Posted April 13, 2020 Oh, c'mon... It's sunny in Pasquetta and we are in quarantine. What joke is the life... For non-italian, Pasquetta (litt. small easter) is the day after Easter and italians usually go on mountains, on parks and similar for do barbecue. And usually it ALWAYS rain

Because all 40 or so of them were admitted mostly before the scaling up of IC beds in the Netherlands really got underway (if you've got roughly 1200 IC beds that doesn't mean you can take on 1200 COVID-19 patients in need of IC, since there's are of course also beds needed for regular stuff like accidents). Apart from that, it was also done to keep a bit of pressure off of the healthcare workers - since there was plenty of space in Germany, so this was not a problem for them. And it was simply better to bring them to Germany than move them all the way to the north of the Netherlands, which would be a longer trip for these people (most of whom are patients from the border region), since in the south the hospitals - especially at that time - were in fact as good as full. . Gangelt was the real first hotspot of COVID-19 in Germany. A couple who was in holidays in Italy got infected with the virus. They returned without knowing it and took part in a local carnival party in Gangelt, infecting many other people from this region. When the man from the original couple got hospitalized only very few days after the carnival party, all the other carnival guests were put in quarantine as a safety measure. Meaning Gangelt has very likely a much higher quota of infected people than the average in Germany. I am not familiar with this place but I heard the following about the antibody testing in germany "The team plans to test 100,000 people at a time from mid-April, issuing documents to those who have built up an immunity. It may be interesting to see as this ramps up how many people have truly got the virus They will then use the information gleaned from the testing to assess how and when the lockdown should conclude. Researchers will utilise the data as they advise the government on when schools will be re-opened and mass gatherings permitted once again." IMHO ........ The Number of people who have got the virus may be greater than what has been reported by a factor of 10 times the actual numbers tested positive ( since a large number of asymptomatic or mild cases may not have been testing ...... ....... Antibody testing is the only way that can be found out as even actual corona testing testing does not count people who have got it in the past and may have recovered ...... If the value is tested at 10 times the current numbers in a place like germany then the mortality rate as calculated by WHO is absolutely incorrect and corona virus may be much less dangerous then thought , I really feel this test is vital to take a more careful stance on corona " Kudos to Germany for being really scientific " strength does not come from physical capacity but from an indomitable will. - Gandhi
OlympicsFan 858 Posted April 13, 2020 #2797 Share Posted April 13, 2020 Here is a table with the number of foreign Covid-19 patients currently treated in german hospitals: https://www.welt.de/wirtschaft/article207207005/Corona-Krise-In-der-Krise-wird-Deutschland-zum-heimlichen-Helden-Europas.html 107 patients from France, 32 patients from Italy and 40 patients from the Netherlands Bavaria (Bayern) and Berlin didn't report any numbers, but i am pretty sure that both of those states also have some foreign patients currently. I hope that the lockdown in Germany will soon loosen up, considering that there seem to be many empty beds in german hospitals. heywoodu 15,135 Posted April 13, 2020 #2798 Share Posted April 13, 2020 This is hilarious Apparently in some Indonesian town people are going on the streets dressed as 'ghosts' (including some good old whiteface, let the racism yellers begin ) to get people to stay inside. I can't imagine it's not a joke but still .

hckošice 14,822 Posted April 13, 2020 Author #2800 Share Posted April 13, 2020 and here we go... A special press conference just announced a huge probem in a retirement home in a city of Pezinok. 47 positive (5 employees and 42 clients) ! 7 of them are already hospitalized and 1 under ventilation. since they belong to the risky age category, these numbers can change rapidly. Apparently one of the employees brought the disease and 2 days ago in Saturday on of the clients was tested positive... then the avalanche dropped... in other hand great work of authorities who got the echo more or less acted immediately The whole area with the building was immediately quarantined For now it is still not known how they will count the number of cases now. If the 47 will be added to the yesterdays 27 that has been revealed earlier today it would means 74 new cases and 816 confirmed cases, but more likely they will be just added to the tomorrows counts, so the official statistics for now remains at 769 (but with the information that at least 47 will be for sure added tomorrow), they still have to test 9 more clients and 36 employees whose due to capacity issue could not be tested yesterday. but everyone will be tested as soon as possible.
