Rieder loses a chance for the medal with one miss. Should be her PB by miles?

yes, but she wouldn't have been better than 4th in any case...

not so many regrets for her...

How dare you :p

Honestly, I have no idea where this girl came from :d

well, she's one of the most promising juniors of her age groups...

at the recent junior worlds in Switzerland she was 2nd in the Individual race and 3rd in both the Sprint and the Pursuit events...

I think she has a bright future ahead of her...hope she's not gonna waste her undoubted talent...

Zuk is a bit too far-fetched for me.

I'd be more inclined to see something from Brorsson, Hauser. Franziska Preuss looks to be close to podium form, don't know if calling her an outsider would do her justice though :p

Let's make no mistake, Zuk is the fastest Polish skier now. Hojnisz has some of these slow laps quite frequently tbh but she's still pretty good.

Preuss is like poor man's Simone Greiner Petter-Memm. Good enough for a Top 5-6 on her best day but never a race winning talent.

Hauser is just too slow on the skis to make a proper challenge for medals.

Individual, easily the greatest biathlon discipline. At least to me.

And Wierer makes it easy to cheer for her, such an exciting and brave athlete.

Cheered for Hojnisz too, shame for the misses.

Öberg won the distance cup with her placing fourth today.

A little bit of comfort I presume.

There is an interview on the IBU website talking about it.  It is an example of consistency.

a few stats about Wierer...

with today's Gold Medal, she's now the 2nd best Italian woman in the history of snow sports for what concerns the number of world titles (she has 3, tied with Deborah Compagnoni, both of them just behind Stefania Belmondo with 4)...

curiously, all those 3 women have been capable of winning 2 titles in 1 single championship: Wierer did it this year, Compagnoni in 1997, Belmondo did it twice in 1993 and 1999...

the only difference between Wierer and the other 2 women is the fact that she never won an Olympic Gold medal, but she won 1 overall world cup (so far), meanwhile Compagnoni and Belmondo* never won an overall world cup title, but both won multiple Olympic Gold medals...

*obviously, should FIS make justice and recount the Olympic, World, World Cup races without all the Russian women later in the years proved to be cheaters of the worst type, then things would change dramatically...but this is another story...and it's totally OT right here...;)

    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
