I missed this news. It will become like the table tennis? :mumble:

BWF has been conducting trials about a possible switch to 11x5 from the present 21x3 format for quite some time. I remember there were a number of events in the past two years also which were played using 11x5 format. But, as of today, 21x3 is the main format which will be used in all the major tournaments.

It is somehow a big controversy in Indonesia, many citing lack of excitement in the 5x11 format. It is also not uncommon for Indonesian fans to say that this is Poul Erik Hoyer's agenda to make Europeans gain more advantage in badminton.

So today there is a big incident in China Open:

During the WD match between Japan's Matsutomo/Takahashi and China's Huang/Li, the umpire (which was also Chinese) denied a challenge even after the Japanese raised their hands immediately after it landed (and called "out"; which means Chinese players tied the match after winning 22-20 in the 2nd game). It sparked out complaints from Japanese players and coaches but the umpire ignored them, citing it is too late to use the Instant Review.

Umpire from the same country with players, BWF certainly needs to fix this issue...

Not long after that, another Chinese umpire also created problem because she couldn't communicate well with the English pairs (who complained a few times during the match). Man, this is a Superseries Premier !!

Btw, Denamrk's TV2 wrote this in their page " Det behøver ikke at være sværere at stoppe en brokr** " -> What does this mean @Agger :d

It would be something like:"it doesn't have to be harder than this to stop a loudmoutth (or a complaining person)

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
