One hell of a final between Japan and Uruguay in Montevideo by the way  ...

0-0 at HT, 0-0 at FT, 0-0 at the end of the first ET, and eventually Japan snatching the win away from the locals after more than 25 minutes of play :yikes:

The postponement of the HK tournament will probably change the shape of this qualifier ...

Japan :JPN though didn't seem imperial, as one could have expected them to be, given their (unfair) extra World Series experience and their roster. The fact that the qualifier will now take place AFTER the Olympics could even strengthen the chances of their opponents, since their main target will be done by HK and considering how the Japanese program have been erratic these past four years ...

HK :HKG staying true to themselves, not very impressive but always in the last four, still lacking a tiny bit of something to get the win.

Germany :GER in the same vein : strong, physical, powerful, athletic ... you get it, not the most beautiful team but surely pragmatic ... well, German :) Could be the favorites this time.

Chile :CHI and Uruguay :URU my favorite sides, a fierce defense combined to a tonic attack, benefiting from their home support this time around.

Tonga :TGA close to the Samoan model, solid team but they have not yet performed as we could expect them to ...

And finally Uganda :UGA and Zimbabwe :ZIM, two athletic squads but much like PNG they lack some control over essential matters, especially Uganda which nearly lose all their line-outs ... crucial in this game.

Rugby World Cup star Kenki Fukuoka gives up on bid to make Olympic sevens team

Rugby World Cup star Kenki Fukuoka will give priority to pursuing a medical career and abandon his bid to play sevens at the Tokyo Olympic Games next summer, a source said Saturday.

The 27-year-old, who is studying to become a doctor, had planned to bid farewell competitive rugby after the Tokyo Olympics.

But the one-year postponement of the games due to the coronavirus pandemic has reportedly made it too difficult to balance his studies with his rugby commitments.

The Japan Rugby Football Union has confirmed Fukuoka's departure from the Olympic practice squad.

The speedy winger emerged as one of the stars of last year's World Cup on home soil, scoring four tries and playing an instrumental role in Japan's historic run to the quarterfinals.

He was named man of the match as the Brave Blossoms defeated Scotland 28-21 in their final pool match to ensure their first-ever berth in the knockout stage of the tournament.

Fukuoka played sevens at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where Japan finished fourth.

this is awkward,

At least in sevens it shouldn't be an issue, I sincerely hope.

In 7s you can easily restart by a tap off the ground.  But the problem for RU is that the game without scrums would basically be Rugby League....

    • With a week to go till the deadline for the world invitational, the rosters look beefy for the discus on both sides.24 entries for the men[19 accepted in so far] and 25 for the women[18 accepted so far] For the men so far there are three 70 meter throwers[i count Denny as that since it's just 4 centimeters off his pb]10 from mid 66 to low 69,three of 65 and over, four from almost 64 to almost 65.On the women's side the 18 accepted throwers all have a pb of over 60 meters.11 of them have  pbs over 64 plus.of the ones still not there besides Valerie and Yaime who have been marketed so i can only assume they will join, such names as  Sandra Elkasevic,Bin Feng, and jordine van klinken aren't signed up yet, jordine's probably the most likely of them to join in tough feng would be a cool surprise,i somehow don't see Sandra doing this, but it would be awesome if she did.Stahl and ceh aren't in yet on the men's side, ceh has been marketed while stahl hasn't been mentioned at all,[pretty sure stahl will not be there],Lukas[last name is too wild for me to even try] and lawrence okoye aren't there yet either but i'm betting both will be joining in.
    • What a shame. That would have been amazing.
    • It's complete American domination in the women's discus rankings so far this year, they occupy the top 4 slots, and the WORST result of those four was achieved at Ramona .Third place currently belongs to Ciera Jackson who had a huge almost 4 METER pr at the west coast relays on friday-64.42[previous best was 60.77 from march of 2023,and she opened her season a week ago with at that time her second best result ever of 60.14]she also had a 63.66 throw to back this new pb up,and finally with her new personal best she took down the school record that stood for 36 YEARS[Btw Valerie Allman actually competed in Ramona on march 30th but conditions were apparently far from ideal and she fouled four times and her best was a 63.61,i don't doubt that in the event that she competes in the  world intational, the conditions will be perfect,i wouldn't be so bold as to say she wouldl get the world record but for sure i think she could get a new personal best.
    • So after finding this this morning     I started to search for more news about the date and ticket prices all over the world web !   I found this then       to just notice later that   it was April fools     so yeah, that was my day
