Fencing FIE World Championships 2023

Cuomo just wasted the chance of his life...he lost against Kurbanov, despite the man from :KAZ was struggling with cramps and visibly limping on one leg  :hairpull:

on the other hand, Di Veroli found the way to turn things around in a very complicated assault against :VEN Francisco Limardo

Kurbanov saw that @phelps didn't have anything to complain about, so he made sure to make things interesting.

Joking aside, 4 different nations in the Top4. :KAZ continues to impress.

:KAZ will be dangerous in the team event, I fear

have to check the draw, but I really hope it's not on our route in the early rounds once again :fingers:

I feel like Romain Cannone is such an inconsistant fencer, but one thing is sure, he seems to really like the World Championships and the Olympic Games. :d

Let's go for the 4th (?) :FRA vs :ITA battle of the day!

Now that you mention it, we got the good draw in women's epee. :HUN v :UKR in the R16 will likely happen and that can be decisive match in the fight for the European quota.

despite being the no.3 seed, :ITA have a much more difficult route to the medal round than :POL (no.4 seed), who basically have a clean pathway to the semifinals

we have to go vs our bete noir :EST in the quarterfinals and, in case, :FRA in the semis

same in the men's Sabre, :ITA vs :FRA in a theoretical QTF and then :HUN (or :IRI but it's unlikely) waiting for the winner in the semis

Now we have two fencers in men's epee who have been in WCh finals. And our third fencer, Andrásfi is also capable of such results. I will combust if we fail to qualify the team in men's epee again.

    • Oops. I must have misunderstood. I could have sworn I saw her jogging in a field of other men. I assumed she had caught up to some of the slower men. (I admittedly wasn't watching closely.)
    • The women started earlier, it was a race without any men participating.
    • Looking forward to this competition starting tomorrow! Will be nice to see some other countries participate. USA women start with Namibia tomorrow.
    • This came out on the official website yesterday. Updated list of events and competition schedules in Japanese.   Padel and Teqball are on the schedules. Looks like two events for Padel and five for Teqball.   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会競技プログラム.pdf   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会デイリースケジュール.pdf   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会セッションスケジュール.pdf   On the sports programme PDF, Padel is #25 and Teqball is #38.
    • looks like the agreement is the international federations are in fact hosting the event, not the AG organizers, so everything is up to them to make it happen.   Teqball is now confirmed to have 5 events (singles and doubles) does it mean easy 5 gold medals for Thailand ?   Padel is not 100% confirmed yet. I assume there are still talks ongoing between the IF and the Japanese organizers.
    • I feel like this year's Eurovision is more wide open than ever 😂   There isn't a clear favorite, and that makes everything more exciting. Finland is looking strong, sure, but Ukraine always knows how to surprise people and connect with them. I was checking out the odds a bit, and I was struck by how quickly they're rising.   By the way, I found a site that compares the odds pretty clearly: https://casasdeapuestaseurovision.com/   It’s nothing special, but it gives you an idea of how things are shaping up before the semifinals. Although we all know how this goes… at Eurovision, everything can change in a matter of minutes
