:MON Monaco in the 1/2 and close to get a medal with their Chinese player.

She’s got an interesting story actually. I spoke with her and her coach(?) in Malta. The interview wasn’t great, so I didn’t publish anything. Of course, she doesn’t speak English, so some stuff was probably lost in translation (she speaks French and Chinese).

She originally moved to Nice and played for a club there. I think was 5+ years before the idea to play internationally started to gain ground. She loosely represented France (I believe), but there was some sort of problem with the federation. It was eventually proposed she play for Monaco by a club member (who was from Monaco?). They accepted her on to the team, and have been working on the nationality requirements for the last few years.

I didn’t spend a lot of time around her, but she seemed very nice.

What was the score please? You need to win 3 or 4 games? I thought it best of 7 games.

It's best of 7 in Singles but best of 5 in Mixed.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
