I don't have any problem with target shooting being open to both sexes but I do feel this may end women's participation in top class clay pigeon shooting.

Yeah, Prague is definitely one city I can personally imagine hosting a great olympics. Definitely more suitable than the black hole we use as capital lately

What about a three way bid between Prague, Bratislava and Budapest?

USA will probably not approve it since it will lessen the medals' total. Shooting is one event where both USA & China would be keen to keep as it is.

OTOH the rule is that each sport controls a set number of Olympic medals, so if you have Open categories in certain event, then all those unused medals can then be used for the kinds of disciplines that appear in the World Cup series but don't now get Olympic medals.

or rather Prague, Vienna, Budapest :d

You could appoint some kind of supreme executive power to ensure that everything ran smoothly, wearing special regalia for easy recognition.

I feel like not having the shooting events separated by gender is actually pretty reasonable? In Paris the gold medalist of the women’s event had a higher final score than the gold medalist in the men’s event in the 50m rifle and the 10m pistol (and multiple women had high enough scores to make the men’s final).

Olympic shootgun shooting used to be open and it was fine.

Also think of the bright side: no more mixed team events in shooting!

until 1992 shotgun shooting was "open", so it would only be a comeback to the "original sin"

but tbh I don't like the idea...actually, I'm for the separation of genders also in the Equestrian Sports (like in Germany, where they have a National Championship in Show Jumping awarding both men and women's honors)

p.s. physiologically, women have an edge over men in shooting sports, as they normally have a naturally slower average heartbeat rate than men ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

143rd IOC Media is currently running.

Frist vote was about some IFs name change:

  • World Curling Federation become World Curling
  • FIS adding "and Skateboarding" in the name

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
