I actually remember watching Gerda Weissensteiner on live TV. Does this qualify for the supercentanarian class? :p

I'm disappointed you're from a time where there was live TV.

It was popular only in Alto Adige/Sudtirol and in Austria (what surprise :p). Probability 90% of international events are hosted by this two regions

Only 4 countries ever won medals in Natural Track Luge World Championships: Italy, Austria, Russia (Soviet Union) and Poland. And every Polish medal has been won by the two guys in doubles I mentioned earlier. Hell, this could be the most exclusive sport in the world, more nations have won World Cup medals in rugby & cricket

Yes, I'm shocked how I graduated from school without the aid of internet & cell phones   I actually read real paper books in my life too!

Ah, you mean those things I've got around 200 of? Including several about the Olympics, to keep it on-topic :d

Yeah, if IOC approves natural track luge, then we have a conclusive proof that they will do just about anything to keep the hosts happy and boost their medal count.

Watch out for MMA in 2028 and pencak silat whenever Indonesia hosts it. I mean, even pencak silat is not nearly as exclusive as natural track luge - 23 nations have won medals at WCh level.

Isn't like Italy the place where natural track luge is the most popular?

it's basically only a South Tyrolean thing...in the rest of the Country it's almost unknown (as many winter sports) and it never goes on our National TV...

so, I wouldn't say "it's popular"...rather, it's a sport where the Italian NOC can win a lot of medals...;)

in Olympic terms, it's Italy vs Austria with Russia just behind...

Poland used to have great doubles (they even won world cups and world champs), but they're no longer a force...

the other participating Nations (at the world cup/champs there are always a good number showin'up) are quite far behind the top 3, however...

Really it deserves a place at this point. Rumor has it that they’ll look to add Ski Mountaineering as well. They have pretty good arguments for its inclusion as well.

yeah, but at the moment it's only an unofficial proposal, an idea, just like Ice Climbing (however, Dolomites would be the perfect landscape for Ski Mountaineering...I really hope they can get that, too)...

meanwhile it looks that for NTL they've started all the official burocratic tasks to have it in the 2026 Games...

Is there any source about this NTL2026 thing? Like a link I could link to in other places? :p

    • those who say that in the future, due to global warming and lack of snow, all sports at the Winter Olympics will have to be held indoors. Do you even think about what you are talking about? The FIS Cross-Country World Cup distances are 20 km skiathlon and 50 km mass start. Is there even a facility in the world that can host 20 and 50 km races? Is it possible? Well, let's imagine that such a facility was built somewhere in Paris and Monaco. Les Rousses spent so much money on building the tracks and infrastructure and then kicked it out of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup because Paris and Monaco, which have more money came to the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. Places like Les Rousses would simply go bankrupt trying to popularize the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, do we really need that?
    • Any word about TV Coverage?  Discovery has the five senior races as normal, but no sign of the age group races.  Locked away on Belgian payTV?
    • Ah good, was wondering what the relationship of Endurance Rowing was to Coastal Rowing.  They're wimping out a bit holding it at Genoa though, would prefer somewhere a bit more storm-tossed.
    • This was pretty fun to watch  Coverage was fine, racing was fun, no problem at all.
    • Thanks @phelps for gathering information   but World Skate is an Olympic federation now, yet they can't provide a basic result system for their main event.    OK I'm not asking for a live score system, but how hard it is to post results in PDF after each event ?    not talking about the sport but this IF doesn't deserve to be in the Olympics.
    • from Thursday, Sept. 12th through Sunday, Sept. 15th,  Genua hosts the Coastal Rowing World Championships in the Olympic Format (Beach Sprint)   it's the first championship since the discipline has been elected to the Olympic stage   last week, the Endurance World Championships were also held in Genua     the champions:   CW1x:  Monika Dukarska   CM1x:  Finlay Hamill   CW2x:  Katharina Lobnig, Magdalena Lobnig CM2x:  Igor Khmara, Stanislav Kovalov CW4x+:  Anna Sarah Sophie Souwer, Kiri English-Hawke, Marieke Keijser, Karolien Florijn, Dieuwke Fetter CM4x+:  Yuriy Ivanov, Mykola Mazur, Ivan Futryk, Ivan Dovhodko, Anastasiia Kozyr CMix2x:  Patricio Rojas Aznar, Amanda Gil Camacho
    • One more nation to reach decent number of 30 participants.
    • Inline Slalom   women's Slalom   Gold:  Mona Heller Silver:  Lorenza Cesaris Bronze:  Manuela Schmohl   men's Junior Slalom   Gold:  Mattia Pè Silver:  Christian Rondi Bronze:  Marcos Arias Sanchez
    • Judging always takes two or three minutes in these competitions - longer even for possible medal runs - for reasons above, so just saying DNI is a way of saying it's not worth comparing a fall on the third hit to a fall on the fourth hit since neither are going to affect the overall.
    • Scoring in all these events is a bit strange as they are not judging a pre-defined move to an absolute standard, as happens in diving, gymnastics etc, but are constantly shuffling around trying to score riders relative not only to each other, but to that riders' previous runs earlier in the competition and qualifying.
