The rules in the first post should make it clear enough  

 

But in short: Monzanator got the previous answer correct (more or less, in this case), and so he can post a new record. He posted '382', and it's now up to us what this record is. It could be the number of shots on goal in an ice hockey match, it could be most consecutive wins for a tennis player, other times it's a world record in athletes, it can be anything

It's not some frivolity. It's the highest number per a certain category in a sport.
