While I agree it was unlikely she going to be on the podium and 5th place is actually a great result, I wouldn’t say based on her semi final performance she had no chance. But again 5th is actually a great result for her and improves on her 8th place in Tokyo. maestro

If she swam the same time as her heat or semi final, she would have won a medal For sure she was behind the other 4 in favouritism, but it’s simply not true to say a medal was unrealistic. After 50 % of the individual olympic disciplines they have 2 finals, as many as Turkey, South Africa and Spain combined. Only 1 less than Brazil/Netherlands/South Korea/Hungary and half as many as GB/Japan. With a little bit more luck they could have won as many individual medals as GB. OlympicsFan 791 Posted July 25, 2023 #338 Share Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Interesting to see that France might have the 4th most individual finals in olympic disciplines, only behind USA, Australia and China, but ahead of GB, Canada, Japan and Italy. Not too long ago their swimming program was completely dead. Sending Marchand to Bowman and naturalizing Kirpichnikov of course helped. Golden age = 2 swimmers What a time to be alive You’ll be happy to hear that McSharry’s German genes (mother) are playing their part
