This would be a very interesting change if it happened.  I would make the individual race even more different.  I would live to see how the classic would look going up some of the really steep hills around 18-20k for the men, or 13-14 k for the women.

Yeah, it seems that every time that I turn on a new video or look at a headline, I momentarily forget what day it is.

I remember I wanted to burn down our media every time when it was April 1st. Good thing this time they have the virus to worry about and not their bullshit headlines.

Then, after reading the entire day of fake news, they would hold a poll with a top 10 for everyone to vote which fake april 1st news was the most fun.

Not 'a sort of', it is exactly that :p

It is good to see some humor during a challenging time.

By the way, this is the best April Fools Day joke ever:

And another one of my favorite one:

A few random news and notes:

1.  US Biathlon recently signed an agreement with Paul Smith's College a very small college near Lake Placid to allow Youth Biathletes to go to college there, and train for biathlon.  This is the first program of its kind in the US.  Most athletes who wanted to continue biathlon anywhere near full-time had to decide to not attend college and go to a year residency program in places like Ft Kent, ME or Presque Isle, ME.  There are a few others, but these were the biggest.  If they were lucky, they could have been selected to the US Buathlon X team (developmental team) housed in Lake Placid.  The other option was to leave biathlon for 4 years, focus on cross county skiing and go to college and ski cross county at one of the 40 or so schools that have a cross county team.  This agreement with Paul Smiths will provide economic assistance for those looking to continue biathlon with their studies.  It could be a game changer for the program.  But it will take about a decade to see the changes it can make.  The first biathlete, Laura Farra, daughter of a former Olympic Nordic Skier, is the first to take advantage of this.

2.  Russian Biathlon President Vladimir Dracheva is under serious pressure to resign.  In recent years, the team has not performed well on the tracks as well as with sponsorships.  With what is arguably the most popular sport in Russia, Dracheva has failed to secure some main sponsors for the team.  Yes, the ban on hosting races has hurt,  But there is a growing feeling that a change needs to me made.    I do not pretend to understand all of the factors going on here, but on the surface it seems that people are upset at the lack of results, lack of sponsorship money and are looking to blame Dracheva.

OK, so more is coming out about this.  Dracheva is accused of using funds to help his wife.  Allegedly, his wife had a personal driver paid for by by the Russian Biathlon Union.

Also, it looks like that the Russian Biathlon Union is going to run out of money by Fall 2020.

Wow, important federation people using federation money for personal advantages, I've never seen that before in biathlon!

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
