Who would you like to be your nation's flagbearer at Tokyo 2020?

If Italy qualifies in 3 m synchronized diving and if Cagnotto  and Dallape will be chosen, I think Tania will be our flegbearer, the other s great names are Paltrinieri,Clemente Russo, Ivan Zaytsev, if men volleyball will qualify, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Paola Egonu with Italian flag, Elisa Di Francisca. In my opinion is arrived the time to give shooting the deserved premium and give the flag to someone among Jessica Rossi, Chiara Cainero, Gabriele Rossetti or the great Johnny Pellielo, if he qualifies

Regarding Italy, considering who and which teams could qualify, I consider as possible flagbearers Egonu, Zaytsev (volleyball), Nibali (cycling), Zaniolo, Gama (football, it is very unlikely Italy qualifies, but in case...). Apart from Nibali, I think that this time Italian flagbearer will come from team sports, and if this is going to be true Zaytsev will be the first choice, followed by Egonu, (with all subsequent consequences of choosing Egonu). I would have loved Campriani, but sadly he retired.

However, if I could choose, I would like Letizia Paternoster or Gabriele Rossetti

I will be really disappointed if Ivan Zaytsev, after the "Mizuro case" I was deeply disappointed with his behavior

Due to the curse of Polish flagbearer (very rarely our flagbearer gets a medal at the Olympics) I'd like it to be Paweł Spisak - we don't have a chance for a medal in eventing anyway, and it will be his fifth Olympics, which is quite a big achievement in Poland. But to be honest Piotr Małachowski deserves it the most - twice Olympic silver and a big heart - he started the tradition of charity auction at the Polish Sport Champions Ball, an annual event at the Sportsman of the Year gala, giving away his diamonds from Diamond League. But still I wish him that Olympic gold, for which he needs to be in a lifetime shape just a step before his retirement.

I have a feeling it will be one of the volleyball players ;)

Peter Sagan.

Probably no one else has so much popularized Slovakia in the world as he did.

but since the Road Race is always schedulled already the next morning, no way he´ll receive that honor he deserve so much.

so it will probably be one of our Rio 2016 medalists, If I can, I would bet on one of Matej Tóth (Athletics 50km Race Walk 2016 Olympic champion and 2015 World Champion) or Erik Vlček (the immortal Canoe Sprint Slovak legend) and only :SVK athlete who competed at all Olympic Games in this century 2000, 2004 (Bronze K4-1000), 2008, 2012 and 2016 (Silver in K4-1000M) and is more than expected to be part of our K4 (hopefully we will qualify) also in Tokyo 2020

In other hand, one thing is pretty sure it will not be anyone from combat sports or team sports...for obvious reason that you can not be a flagbearer in your living room while sitting on your couch in front of your TV  :p

Maybe, if Sagan aims more to MTB, this may happen :D

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
    • c'mon, guys! relax! sciallatevi un po'!    you're making me sick...it's just the season start and this is a sport where only the world championship (and Olympic, in the specific years) medals count   don't get mad for a couple of races held thousend miles away from home after the team had already passed their first climax (the internal selection)...there are still 2 full seasons before the Olympics

    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)

    • is considering US born goalie Joey Daccord for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off.    https://thehockeynews.com/news/team-canada-is-seriously-considering-usa-born-joey-daccord-for-4-nations-face-off   .923 SV% in 13 games, and 9-3-1 on the season. Would be a big pickup for our goalie issues.
    • Anyway...let's hope that this is the last time this year we see a brownfield competition!
