So Canada will not qualify directly for the quarters.  At this point them losing to China wouldn't surprise me one bit.  Not Canada's Olympics.

Yeah this is gold medal material. Come on against Sweden, the masters of defence from 0:3 to 4:3  that is something.

 

Great thing I made that bet for the title for Finland last month. One more week to gain my money ! :p

Situation after FIN-SWE match and before last 2 preliminary round games

 

1. :FIN  8  Preliminary Round over

2. :ROC 7  Preliminary Round over

3. :USA 6 (+10)  still to play vs Germany

----------------

4. :SWE 7  Preliminary Round over

----------------

5. :DEN 6  (+1) Preliminary Round over

6. :CAN 3  (+2)  still to play vs China

----------------

7. :CZE 4 Preliminary Round over

8. :GER 3  (-3)  still to play vs USA

9. :SVK  3  (-4)  Preliminary Round over

---------------

10. :SUI  1 Preliminary Round over

11.  :LAT 0  (-6)  Preliminary Round over

12. :CHN  0  (-9) still to play vs Canada

 

So if the preliminary round ended right now the Round of 16 pairing would be

 

:DEN - :CHN   winner in QF against :SWE

How are the top four teams placed?  Does the best 2nd place team automatically get 4th position no matter what?  

 

I ask because ROC and Sweden are actually tied on points but Sweden beats them on GD.  Does Sweden or ROC sit in 4th?

Already 18 SOG for China against Canada.  They had 16 total against Germany yesterday.  I was at that game.  Germany looked better against China than Canada has.  


Given, 80% of China's roster is Canadian so they have an extra incentive.

      It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.

      Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt

      The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
