Unless we get crazy results tomorrow, Russia will be the 3rd seed, Denmark will be 5th/6th (likely 6th), Czech Republic will be 7th and Switzerland will be 10th so we already have a potential first round match-up.

Situation before last 4 preliminary round games

1. :ROC  7  Preliminary Round over

2. :USA 6 (+10)  still to play vs Germany

3. :FIN 6  (+6)  still to play vs Sweden

----------------

4. :SWE 6  (+4)  still to play vs Finland

----------------

5. :DEN 6  (+1) Preliminary Round over

6. :CAN 3  (+2)  still to play vs China

----------------

7. :CZE 4 Preliminary Round over

8. :GER 3  (-3)  still to play vs USA

9. :LAT 0  (-3)  still to play vs Slovakia

---------------

10. :SUI  1 Preliminary Round over

11. :SVK  0  (-7)  still to play vs Latvia

12. :CHN  0  (-9) still to play vs Canada

So if the preliminary round ended today the Round of 16 pairing would be

:DEN - :CHN   winner in QF against :SWE

:CAN - :SVK   winner in QF against :FIN

:CZE - :SUI   winner in QF against :USA

:GER - :LAT   winner in QF against :ROC

Given their play, I think :USA > :GER and :CAN > :CHN in regular time is very likely to occur.

That will give the United States the top seed and the FIN/SWE winner the second seed. Canada will finish either 4th or 5th depending on whether FIN/SWE ends in regular time, but will face the loser in the quarterfinals. The 5th seed will likely face China.

Germany will face the winner of Slovakia/Latvia as an 8/9 seed match while the loser will likely face Denmark as the 11th seed (Latvia could be a 10th seed and face :CZE if they lose in OT and scored at least one goal).

Of course if Germany decides to show up tomorrow things will move around.

    • That's so they can play in both venues in Canada.  Will mean that the UEFA Path A winner has to go from Toronto to Los Angeles and then up to Seattle.   Someone was bound to draw the short straw in that group since 4 of the matches are Central, but 2 are in Santa Clara.  Unfortunately, that's Algeria.
