Sailing at the Pan American Games 2019

Recommended Posts

It seems most classes competed today, so if tomorrow there's again wind, they might finish close to the original schedule.

Probably just laziness from the people in charge of the results.

I guess Miami makes more sense

yeah, but I'm not sure world sailing wants to increase the cost of 2 regatta instead of only 1 (the OQ status means also more participants, more judges, more accomodations, more costs for the whole infrastructure)...

let's see what happens...maybe they're lucky enough to complete a regular program already this week in Peru...;)

I think that as it involves Americas it would be fair to stay in Americas. Plus, Miami is relatively in the middle of Americas, which makes (I think) easier to be reached. Last but not least, sailing is always at risk of being cut of quotas and events, so the IF needs to proof that it can spread on the highest possible number of countries: how many small NOCs from Americas will be able to reach Genova?

It looks like at least one race in laser & laser radial has now been completed.

Can anyone remind me what's the minimum number of races need to be held for a regatta to be considered valid?

Based on the notice of race they only need one race. That sounds wrong, but I guess with medals and Olympic quotas on the line they wanted some results.

@mrv86 are you sure that for Laser classes there's a division in North and South America for olympic quotas? Because from the qualification criteria it looks like that these are not the North and South American quotas, but generically PanAmerican. In addition there are two other quotas (1 to North and 1 to South) but I think they won't be assigned at PanAm

Well, according to the document the quotas in the Laser Classes are 2 for North America and 2 for South America . From my point of view, they just decided to award one quota in each gender at Lima and the other one at a World Cup next year.

This document give 1 to NAM, 1 to SAM and 2 to PAM.
