Well, WTF wanted to award the hosts a medal on the men's side at any cost, because let's be honest, their only competitors with enough level to medal are Jade Jones and Bianca Walkden.

Sinden won an European medal and 3 or 4 Grand Prix medals last year, he is 4th in the weighted olympic ranking, how is he not even considered of enough level to be a medal contender?

If WTF wanted to guarantee him a medal, why would they fix the semifinal where a medal is already certain? He won the other matches with a big margin, was he also helped by WTF?

Probabily this is the biggest surprise of Italian taekwondo season... Alessio qualify for the semifinals :woot: He won recently a G2 and he show a great shape, but this was really unexpected.

what a disappointing day, Bakhshi lost in Golden round in QF (he had 1 pt lead with less than a second to go in regular time) and both girls Kiani and Javadi lost to Panipak and Jade Jones (I think both of them will win the gold) Javadi had some great results before getting destroyed by Jones.

to make things even better. our second athlete Erfan Nazemi also denied visa completely and will miss the competition. which leaves Iran with only 6 athletes.

I think it's almost a sure thing we won't win a gold medal here. Bakhshi had a very easy road to the gold medal but threw away his chance.

:CAN Skylar Park made it to the semi-finals, winning her first world medals at 19. She has a very tough semi-final matchup against two time Olympic champion :GBR Jade Jones.

Park is probably the most exciting Canadian prospect in Taekwondo ever.

That was ugly, very ugly.  what a shame. Walkden won the gold 11-20 !! yes the loser scored double points as the winner, 1 cheap punch point + 10 cautions while Zheng scored 20 clean points. I can say half of those penalties were  nonsense. at some point it was like Sumo for Walkden. pushing Zheng out of the court with 2 hands, that's not legal but who cares.

even in UK almost half the spectators were booing Walkden  , that was one of the worst officiating in this sport I ever seen.

She won the women's 400 event today with a massive PB of 53.95 (U20NR and U18NR) and seems to be rapidly improving. Her previous PB was 55.09 from last year (outdoors).   We also had 16 yo Apostolia Antonatou finish second today in the women's 60m with 7.33, which is also a new U20NR and U18NR. A few weeks ago she got 7.38 to equal Katerina Thanou's U20NR but now she beat her and she's only 16.

    • I don't know where the correct place to post this news is, but the Alexandri sisters announced yesterday they will leave  and start competing for  again    Our aquatics federation and Olympic committee were in talks with them for a while apparently, and they say they want to end their careers where they started and represent Greece in Los Angeles.   For those that don't know, they left Greece in 2012 for Austria at the age of 15 because they were cut from our national teams. It was their only way to continue in the sport despite not having any prior connections to Austria. They competed in Rio, Tokyo, and Paris where they placed 4th in the duet (our Greek duet finished 6th). They won many World and European medals for Austria and improved year after year and unexpectedly ended up surpassing all of the Greek girls that were previously seen as more promising by our federation and originally replaced them in our national teams. The girls thanked Austria for the support and opportunities and Austria also seems very supportive of their decision to go back to Greece.
