Yeah, I suppose the good World Cup start shows Colturi is basically better than any Italian not named Brignone & Bassino. Other than money I have no idea why she wasn't drafted into the Italian team before unless there is some backstage beef I'm not aware of.

According to Italian Media, Colturi will back to compete for Italy in the next 1-2 years. She and her mum say that the door is open.

Wasn't that kind of always the plan? Every time she was mentioned or shown, the Dutch commentator said "for now" when saying she competes for Albania and basically said it would only be until Italy would let her compete in the big races :p

It was big news months ago. Ceccarelli wanted, starting from this season,  a private team for her daughter, under her direction but with the federation's money...of course the request was denied, but if she shows to be a phenomenal skier at WC level it might be reconsidered.

because of the system and the opportunities she wouldn't have in a short time staying in Italy...

here there's no chance for a girl (or a boy) to jump from the age groups to the senior NT, you have to be named for the junior squad and competing in the age class races, then if you win a couple of those races, you can be named to the B squad and start in the European Cup races and only if you win (or at least constantly make the podium) in that competition, then you can be named for the senior squad.

no way you can miss some steps.

it would take at least 1 year to climb all the ladder, wasting time, money and with a big chance of being stuck under a coach that can't develop such talent.

moreover, when you are in the "minor" or youth teams, you just can't have a personal coach and training staff, you have to stay with the whole team and with the coaches named by the NF, which was the main point of the controversy between Lara's family and our NF (they always said that the point is not to waste her talent training with people 2+ seconds behind her on a 30-sec training run...and they also didn't want her to be forced to train only in the technical disciplines, when she's considered a big talent also in the speed events* -and here in the youth classes there's no way to be an all-rounder).

*Lara said to the main sport website just this morning that she's going to start also in Super-G, especially in St.Moritz, where she's used to train and knows the track very well.

p.s. she also said that she considers Skiing a totally individual sport, like tennis, golf and so on, therefore I don't think she's going to get back to a big National Team like Italy in a short time, unless she gets a written contract saying she can do whatever she wants.

and despite not closing the door once and forever, she said that she's not considering a comeback to Italy right now (no idea of how some Italian media made a different interpretation of her words, maybe it's just the beginning of a stalking strategy)...

I think she's stricter than her family on this point.

I think it's more our NF that hopes that was the plan since the beginning...

not sure the family (and especially Lara) thinks the same.

we'll see when she turns 18 and has to make the final choice before the 3-year IOC rule about changing Nationality.

P.s. personally, I hope she will never compete for Italy and I hope she wins more races and titles than all the Italian skiers all together...just to let the whole world know how stupid are the people running the Italian Winter Sports :pope:

    • The full schedule in shorttrack always appears very late, like the day/evening before the first day. So tomorrow evening, you should see it here: https://www.shorttrack.swisstiming.com/?evt=11213100000127
    • I think you're doom spiraling too hard after just a few races...   Giacomel is very strong and I think that he might definitely land on a podium this season. The Italian women's team has a lot of very talented juniors that just need some time to grow. Dorothea Wierer also took her time to grow into her best form, so why is it not possible to give some time to the other talented athletes? Not everyone is bound to crush it at 21-23 y. o.
    • Of course they could make lineal world records, but they don't want that, because those records would never be beaten. And it's way more marketable, flashy etc. when you have "modern" WR and they happen regularly. Athletics have started mastering this in their course of upgrading the old WRs with "exciting new stars".   There is absolutely no reason, when your current weight is up to 89 kg for example, and the previous WR has been set in the old weight at 85-86-87 etc. that it's not automatically taken. It has been set under the current limit, there is no difference if the person weighted 85 or 88.5 kg it's within the range.. Now if the old category was over 89, then there would be an advantage, so those WR shouldn't be taken.    The best way is, like you mentioned, to use the bodyweight of everyone, but that is an impossible ask for any weightlifting governing body. I'm not even sure how they are able to run a normal excel..

Olympic sports Canoeing, Field Hockey, Golf, Modern Pentathlon, Shooting, Sport Climbing, Tennis, and Weightlifting will not be involved in any matter while the non-Olympic sport of Karate was also dropped. Baseball/Softball, Dancesport, and Wushu are non-Olympic sports which will get to participate in some capacity.   22/31 Olympic sports will be present (surfing has yet to be involved at a Youth Olympics).   I know we can't (or should) emulate the Olympic program, but hosts should try to include as many sports as possible, especially the relatively cheaper ones like shooting, sport climbing and weightlifting. The good thing is that it looks like the mixed NOCs events are gone (I think they mentioned this earlier).
    • schedule of events is always the same, you can look at the previous round and see how normally things go   no finals on Friday (qualifications of all events only), medal sessions are always only on Saturday and Sunday (alternating men and women's distances on the 2 days, mixed relay normally ends on Sunday)
    • There are both positives and negatives in this situation. The negative is that we are once again changing the weights and erasing records in an attempt to forget the past and "start all over". Nothing speaks more about the integrity of a sport, when it changes it's system every 5 years.   On the positive is that they are actually reducing the number of weights and not keeping the absurd 10. And i know, that for a long time in the past they were always 10, but i think 8 is the perfect balance.   If only wrestling could reduce them to 8 as well.. Boxing could have 10, but that would still be a plus from their current 13-15, or whatever number they have.
    • I think this time  won't get many 4th places, rather they have some chances to win it all (in Freestyle)
    • some Olympic stars are missing...   no Ceccon nor Martinenghi for  and, above all, no  Marchand
    • New events happening.   There will be a mixed 4x100m, starting 2025 Official Walk distances from 2026 will now simply be Marathon & Half Marathon.   https://worldathletics.org/news/press-releases/world-athletics-council-action-against-gender-based-violence
