So, downhill MTB is my new entry in my "ffs, why this is not a Olympic discipline since 20 years ago" list

Agreed, the IOC or sport federations don't need to create events, there are a bunch that are both interesting and competitive.

:FRA Pauline Ferrand-Prevot put on quite a one-man show in the women's Cross Country race...

all the other girls were miles behind her...

meanwhile among the men, :SUI Nino Schurter did again! 10th elite world title for him after a very entertaining race and a fierce battle against :ESP Valero Serrano and, partially, :ITA Luca Braidot...

Olympic Champion :GBR Tom Pidcock did ride a crazy race between moments of brilliance, moments of crisis, technical mistakes (going twice against the same tree in the wood, once even falling from his bike ) and even a tech problem that maybe cost him the bronze medal...in the end, he was 4th a good minute behind the 3rd ranked (Braidot)...

Thanks for the recap!

There's no clear superstar dominating the U23 women this time like Loanna Lecomte and Mona Mitterwallner did in the past two years. I've been following the junior world cups a bit in hopes :NED Puck Pieterse would win some, but they're exchanging blows evenly between :FRA Berquier, :DEN Pedersen and :NED Pieterse

    • so, the Swiss reigning champions, who saved their ass in the last match of the RS, now are almost safe in the semis once again...   very impressive performance also by RB Salzburg, I didn't expect them to make such a good run, even if the 2nd leg match won't be easy at all and they're all but safe in the final four
    • Knockout Stage   Quarterfinals, 1st Leg (Part I) Tuesday 03.12.2024 - Results   Sparta Prague (CZE) - Växjö Lakers (SWE)  1-2 (0-0, 1-1, 0-1) Red Bull Salzburg (AUT) - Färjestad Karlstad (SWE)  3-1 (1-1, 2-0, 0-0) Genève-Servette (SUI) - Pinguins Bremerhaven (GER)  4-0 (2-0, 1-0, 1-0)
    • I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision)  or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less)  but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside
    • Today the funniest tournament of the season, the Shoot Out, will starts
    • Luckily for us, it happened exactly as we thought. Unfortunately, the Serbian players had to play the entire match, the difference in value between the starters and the reserves being quite large, and thus at the end of the match their fatigue was evident.
    • if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.
    • Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to go through. From your keyboard to God's ears on Canada's short track team here (I believe you have us at 4-1-1, which is realistic if everything works out).   Leaving us off the podium in speed skating women's pursuit was interesting.   Three medals of any colour in curling would be celebrated at this point after two disasterous cycles.   In hockey, I'll always take our girls over the Americans (was "lucky" enough to see them lose in 2018 in person, though. Only time in 6 Games. Haha...hahahahaha...ha).    For the men, I said above unless Canada finds a goaltender I'm not too optimistic. USA is just too well rounded. But lots can happen by then, and in a one game elimination tournament.
    • big decision by IWF   new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025   Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg   and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !    https://iwf.sport/2024/12/03/iwf-executive-board-meeting-in-manama-brn-december-2-3-main-decisions/   I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.   but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.
