Athletics WA Under 20 World Championships 2022

Now that @PHI2019 confirmed it's official (:d), Korakidis winning gold in the men's hammer with a WL is surely the highlight of the day for :GRE. I really wanted both of our guys to get on the podium, but Polychroniou lost it right at the end and got 4th

Emmanouilidou was the other highlight of the day. After already having the U20NR of 23.41, she had 23.43 in the heats and then 23.20 in the semifinals . I don't think she can win a medal but making the final is already a huge achievement for her, it's too bad there was no U20 Europeans this year as she surely would've won a medal there :d. The goal for her in the final should be just to improve the U20NR one last time.

Dragomirova 12th in the heptathlon was respectable, but her results are far too inconsistent. She needs to improve a lot in the track events. She was 20/20 in the 800 (7 seconds behind the 19th place finisher)....She is great in the field events although in the past she did much better in the long jump. Pomaski (Tentoglou's coach) said that he could've made her a 7m+ long jumper but she chose to do combined events instead. Her long jump PB is 6.44 from 2019 when she was 16 yo. She has regressed since then (as seen with 5.98 from today being her SB). Her long jump, 200, and 800 PBs are from 2019. At this age that is unacceptable, she needs to be improving...

Triantafyllou finished a disappointing 12th in the women's pole vault, but I never expected her to win a medal. Maybe in 2024 though

Deliu 35th in the women's 100 hurdles. Whatever.

This guys penis came out in the middle of the race

Athletics U20 Championships due to a wardrobe malfunction. 18-year-old Alberto Nonino, who hails from Italy, was competing in the 400-meter of decathlon in Cali, Colombia when the incident took place. Alberto Nonino started off extremely well by gaining pace against his competitors, leaving the bystanders under the impression that he might win the race with quite ease. However, after Nonino passed the middle lane, he looked uncomfortable and kept reaching down to hold his crotch a couple of times. He came last ??

With the commentators going "look at Nonino, there goes, reaching down" during the slow motion replays. Jeez, did a TV director not notice his luggage flopping around? One might, you know, just decide to not show that front-view replay

Kinda reminded me of the Nickelback song Burn it to the Ground.

Oh, that shit makes me bat shit crazy
We've got no fear, no doubt
All in balls out

:POL won the second bronze in men's pole vault. Michal Gawenda won U-18 European title few weeks back so he was one of the very few medal contenders we had.

Meanwhile race walking on track usually throws up some "sprint" finishes. :MEX Karla Ximena Serrano beat :JPN Ai Ooyama by 0,09 sec. taking the lead basically less than a meter from the finish line :p

:AUS Olivia Sandery got a 1 minute time penalty which demoted her from third to fourth place.

Old Eurosport buddy Martin Gillingham kinda didn't see that coming ;)

Indian and Nigeria competing with a mixed team in women‘s 4 x 400 m relay. „Women‘s“ 200/400/800 m have become pointless events sadly.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Yeah, some race walking minnows dominated the boys' race. Tunisia came in 4th.

It looks like both Turks are real Turks, not some imports like Abeylegesse years back.

    • The women's weights are okay given the distribution of competitors. The men's weights are definitely underweight. Adding 2-3kg in each event would make it more balanced.
