Even if Eventing was held, it seems likely that it has never been counted as a official.

Well, that seems unnecessary. But then again, on second look I realize that 2003 Fair Hill competitions also didn't count for the medal table, so I guess that solves it.

@dcro @Griff88 There’s no mention of Eventing being held at the 1991 Pan American Games in the official results. The medal tally also does not include Eventing (as only 4 groups of medals were awarded/counted). There’s also no mention of Bermudan athletes on the official entry lists.

So then it is just a local bias.

But still, it give me the urge to complete the incomplete since I can't unsee it

Well, they will never be official medalists since Panam Sports does not recognize them as such. It’s a fun piece of history, but that’s about all it will ever be probably.

This is interesting. Bermuda has 9 medals from the Pan American Games, according to Wikipedia. However, it looks like they failed to count two (!) more medals Bermuda has apparently won in 1991. MJ Tumbridge won an individual silver in eventing and lead Bermudan team to a team silver as well.

Granted, it's possible that confusion was created due to eventing competitions being held in Atlanta instead of Havana, but still, those competitoins still counted, so I guess Bermuda has 11 medals after all.

I'm afraid it's impossible to find complete podiums of those two competitions though. :dunno:

Anyway, I found it: https://useventing.com/resources/documents/1991_archive_results.pdf

Scroll until North Georgia 3 Day Event held 6-10 Nov 1991. They didn't show the countries of the athletes, though.

Great job @Griff88

Thanks to your data, I found that it was Mexico who won 3rd place in the teams competition, with all four riders being members of the Armed Forces @dcro

https://www.gob.mx/sedena/acciones-y-programas/juegos-panamericanos-habana-cuba-1991

According to the page above, the Mexican Army also counts that medal as being achieved at the Games, so in the end, only Panam Sports might be able to solve this confusion.

I managed to confirm that Canada won team and individual golds (Page 32), what leaves only the bronze medalists in mystery (and the composition of the Bermudan team).

Individual bronze went to USA's Abigail Lufkin, who got an "official" bronze medal in Winnipeg 8 years later and it's now a sports psychologist

Gray & Blackmann competed at Seoul, the former also appearing at LA four years earlier. I found this article on Rogue, which states that he was born and did some eventing in Bermuda.

Moreover it seems both Canada and Mexico had a fifth rider (Samantha Majendie and Fernando Parroquin, respectively), both of whom probably competed as individuals, as most of the American riders on the list. It seems Mexico's medal came by pure luck as those US riders named for the team competition didn't finished.

As only 4 nations competed, that could be the cause this event was not on the official tally, as the old PASO rules stated that at least 5 countries must enter for the event to be considered in the official Games' program.

    • At one point it seemed we were making good progress in this sport, but in the past 1-2 years things seem to have hit a standstill..   Ivaylo Ivanov is still our only elite judoka, but he is passing 30. There were/are some promising youngsters, but they haven't been able to make a jump to the senior level. At this Euro we barely had any first round wins (not including Ivanov). In fencing and taekwondo the results are much more visible for us.
