awful results for Italy...probably the worst tournament in the last couple of years...

and Crescenzo lost again against a Kazakh guy...and not the usual ones, today he was beaten by their 3rd tier guy! :yikes::facepalm::wall:

give us a psychologist...but a really good one...:rofl::facepalm:

wow if we ever wanted to invade Turkey. this is probably our chance ! the number of Iranians here is probably more than the population of Istanbul :facepalm:I can't even find anything about most of these guys. whoever can affords a short trip to Turkey is allowed to participate. but this is stupid. half of them losing in first round is no good for the prestige of our karate . and they don't exist for our Karate federation . their news section only mention their own athletes ! (the usual names you see in other competitions. 2 per weight class)

we will have 5 finalists later today, but only one of them matters in Olympic ranking, Askari-Busa in 75kg final will be interesting but our other Olympic hope Ganjzadeh lost to former Iran NT member Iman Sanchouli who is now representing Northern Ireland !? (huh ?! :yikes: how the hell he found Northern Ireland ?! :yikes:) 10-15 years it was considered a very very bad thing to change nationality and face Iranian athletes in international competitions. now it's very normal .

Maybe +84kg category was weak at this event but it's not often Canada is in a Karate final... even if it is on home soil. Thoughts about this event @phelps since I know this sport is one of your specialties, and North America doesn't generally host a ton of high profile Karate events...

in general, the participation to this tournament is not the most crowded ever in terms of top athletes (especially the Europeans, since next weekend there are the European Games Karate finals in Minsk, which have 1 men and 1 women's Olympic Quota up for grabs)...

but still, in the final rounds I see a lot of big names, so it's not that the quality is that poor...maybe the tournament was lacking a bit in depth, but not in the top stars...

for what I see, Gaysinsky was actually a bit lucky with the draw, but Irr and Marino are still quite good fighters (our guy was considered a great talent -world junior medallist, senior european champion at the age of 20, but at the moment he's struggling with too many injuries and can't find his shape of 2017 back)...

for sure, if he was in the same pool with Yamanoglu and Ganjzadeh (2 of the very best in the world), he wouldn't be in the gold medal match...

unfortunately, Serie A tournaments don't give up that many ranking points...

for Italy, it was a very good tournament so far, with 3 athletes in the gold medal matches and 5 fighting for bronze...I hope that later today they can finish the job with full success...
