  • 5 months later...

Only one round robin match to start the tournament.

:SAM with a big win over :NZL. This puts :NZL in a tough spot as they now much defeat :AUS if they want to get out of the group stage.

The combined :GBR team was easily defeated by :FRA. It may take some time for them to become cohesive.

Well, the squad is pretty much team Scotland (8) with a bunch of Englishmen (4) and a token Welshman, the lack of cohesion is therefore a bit odd. None of the three program was going well before the merger anyhow, so seeing GB struggle now is quite logical though the impression left this morning is concerning.

But the real information from this first day is that the World Series will go from 16 to 12 teams next year !

I guess they want tot reduce the tournaments' length. But the Challenger Series will need to be really established, not like what we've seen so far, or 7s will unfortunately become another Commonwealth/rugby inbred sport.

This is a very poor move and will create a further gap between the top nations and the rest.

Even if we assume the Challenger Series will have a proper schedule (say 6 stops), funding for the national teams will be a big issue. Some of the core teams are already struggling and it will be more so because nobody wants to heavily fund a "division II" team.

Wow, that's ridiculous. The sport is having hard time developing as it is, and now they plan to reduce World Series to an Olympic-sized field.

For example, if we went by last season's results, Canada and Japan (along with no promotion for Uruguay) would have been relegated. I can tell you now the men's team funding would have been cut by more than it already has. Japan might still get funding due to being a favourite for an Olympic quota, but probably a lot less.

I fear for what would happen to nations like Kenya or Samoa who have had bad seasons in the past. It could kill their program if they are not in the top level.

:NZL fails to reach the Cup Quarterfinals. Also, :GBR went from defeating :RSA in one match only to lose to :URU in the next. They also missed the Cup Quarterfinals.

The Cup Quarterfinals is as follows

:ARG v :SAM

:FIJ v :RSA

:IRL v :AUS

:FRA v :USA

    • Record crowds for this weekend, according to the British Comms so well done  les bouffe-grenouilles!   Jeanmonnot has ice water in her veins, not giving anything away.
    • Suspect strongly that the Sultan of  is behind Global Wushu!     Another one is long distance & ultra triathlon.  There are literally millions being paid out in prize money to attract big name athletes from several sports, huge FTA TV coverage but seemingly no prospect of any profit.   And the classic is obstacle racing, which has effectively bought up the ownership of Modern Pentathlon.
    • apparently the Japanese organizers rejected OCA's nice request    now OCA is ordering them to do so in a not-so-nice language https://oca.asia/media/attachments/memberships_subcommittee/5/Decision_-_103rd_OCA_EB_Meeting_5ypY8y4.pdf   the last line is very interesting   I knew this for a while, for example that's why Jujjtsu is included in all of OCA events (despite being the worst sport to watch) but good to see OCA admit this. so with the corrupt OCA you can buy your way in. how much they paid the OCA officials for this ?   OK I know Qatar is financially supporting Padel (and UAE is paying everything for Jujitsu) but who is behind Teqball?  ! I don't think Thailand can do that.
    • Important information on team Aerials.   There is no AIN`s team at the start list of the world cup despite of the fact that belorussians have enough athletes to have a team.   https://medias4.fis-ski.com/pdf/2026/FS/8119/2026FS8119SLF1.pdf
    • By the way. It looks like no AIN`s will be in biathlon by the start of the Olympics. Russians filed an appeal to CAS to get AIN statuses in biathlon. But IBU did not agree to have hearings with short procedure. So the decisons are not expected before the end of qulifying period. (FIS could do the same but its top-officials prefer to help russians be back as quick as possible).   I would like to see Dolidovich at the Games. Because she is a real refugee of the relatively high level.
