She will be 12 if she makes the Tokyo Olympics. She will not be the youngest offical gold medalist ever, but she is definitely a fun athlete to watch. I just hope she turns out mentally stable after all of this. The Great Britain Skateboarding Association seems to have done a great marketing and protecting her though, so good on them.

Right, but Chole Kim was screwed out of a guaranteed medal for the same reason. I say give her a chance.

Does she even have a good chance to qualify? I don’t get the impression the UK is all that strong in skateboarding.

She’s one of the best in the world. She can most likely do it. She also has a chance in surfing according to multiple news outlets.

London 2019 - the first step towards Tokyo

With the girls competing in the Global Open in London, we had the official kick off for the street skateboarding Olympic adventure.

As the first ever Olympic qualifying event, the World Skate/SLS stop in London is writing the first page in the history of the Olympic Skateboarding.

Today and tomorrow, the BAYSIXTY6 skatepark is hosting the Global Open for Women and Men as for the new format introduced in Rio de Janeiro Street Skateboarding 2018 World Championships that makes possible for skaters from all over the world to compete against skateboarding icons such as Leticia Bufoni or Nyjah Huston.

Thanks to the Open qualifier formula, skaters from all around the world have the chance to access to the historical Street League tour and to compete at the highest level in street skateboarding.

The new format is really contributing to widespread skateboarding all over the world helping to reach undeveloped areas where our sport is now growing faster and faster.

164 athletes of 45 National teams reached London for the first stop of Season #01 and only 12 girls and 10 guys will pass to the following phases of the competition that will take place in the Copper Box Arena on May 25th and 26th.

LONDON FORMAT RECAP

In the Global Open qualifiers, skaters will compete in maximum 3 skaters, 3 minutes single jam session format.

Event phases after the Global Open Qualifier will be run using the Olympic contest format.

Each Skater will perform 2 runs and 5 Tricks; the best 4 scores from runs or tricks will be added to give the total round score.

Women
Top 12 women from Global Open Qualifier will advance into Semi-finals and meet the top 18 skaters from 2018 World Skate SLS World Championship: Top 8 women will advance to Final.

Men
Top 10 men from Global Open Qualifier will advance into Quarter Finals to meet the skaters ranked from 21st to 38th in 2018 World Championship and the best 4 skaters, not already pre-seeded, from the SLS Ranking prior to the last World Championship. From the Quarter Finals, the top 10 men advance to Semi-finals to meet the top 20 men from the 2018 World Skate SLS World Championship: only top 8 skaters go to Final.

Follow Live on World Skate Tv on May 26th (London time)

    • Of all the valid points one can make, I'd say someone's mastery of the English language shouldn't really be one on an international forum like this. I think at least 80% of us don't have English as native language, and there's logically going to be a difference in levels.   Again, not disagreeing with the actual contents of what you and people here are saying, but attacking one's language skills (other than an innocent joke here or there, for which this isn't exactly the right place of discussion I assume) feels unnecessary and kind of takes away from the actual content

    • France currently has 3-4 men quotas in top 10 places under the line... If this situation will be on 18th january, who do you think they will nominate and how many slalom racers (3 or 4) if the quota will be for e.g. 7? There are many good names, like Noel, Rassat, Amiez, Muffat, Allegre, Alphand, Pinturault, Elezi, Vitale, ... Catch is that 3 of the top 4 slalom racers are not so good in giant slalom...
    • How are the points calculated? OK, I understand that there are points based on a result in a single race. But, how are the points calculated based on trimester (average of best two results or myb every trimester has 33% of the total ibu qualification points)? For e.g. Croatian Iva Morić started to compete for Croatia one month ago and is currently fifth below the line. If she qualifies, Croatia will be able to compete in relay, for the first time in history, I think.
