thats very sad. this just destroyed my day now.. this is not fair at all

The thing is they don't want to just send everyone who is able to get a quota (and then finish 20th or something). Athletes have to show a certain level of real competitiveness and when you set those standards, there has to be a limit somewhere...in this case they choose for the ones I posted.

It's sad indeed, but Hermans himself probably knew that a 14th place wouldn't be enough.

About it being fair, I don't know...in winter sports I think it's unfair because certain "extra standards" are just totally unrealistic, but on the other hand, athletes already know 1-2 years before what they'll have to do.

He seems to be pretty sure :yikes:

I still have very strong doubts though..

Hermans: "Am I dreaming?"

Dutch selectors: "Yes, you are" :sure:

Maarten Hermans did it today. Got the last European ticket to the Rio Olympics. Not Spain, not Belgium, not Swistzerl, not Sweden but Ned! Now he unfortunately has to qualify for the strict Dutch Olympic Committee Criteria in the next months.

That's the most realistic thing I have seen so far. Yes, he has the quota (for now), but he'll only get to use it if he actually reaches those Dutch criteria. I don't know how much chances he'll have left in World Cups?

There are 3 World Cups left. But I think even the top-12 result will be hard to get unfortunately.

not at all...I think Molmenti could have still given a sign of life in the big occasion, meanwhile I don't see how De Gennaro can finish on the podium of the Olympic Games...

and I didn't like that all the qualifying races have been held in Liptovsky Mikulas (also the previous 2 were held in SVK last month)...they should have chosen at least 3 different courses, not only one for all the selecting events...

even more when we take in count that todays weather in Liptovský Mikuláš is disastrous. Cold and heavy rain, strong wind, terrible conditions...

Very sad moment for our sport, first time in our history we will not be represented in canoe slalom at the Olympics. We were represented in men's canoe slalom in every Olympics and almost always in women's too.....now, absolutely no representation at all, and not even close. Pathetic really, you would swear we have no natural resources in this country to develop good canoe slalom courses and programmes..... but of course we have no facilities.... absolutely pathetic :d

Looks like we share this disaster. We also don't make Rio after competing at every Olympics since 1992 in slalom.

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
