Interesting, I always thought that if Russia stopped the invasion before the end of 2022 (probably more hopeful than realistic), they would be brought back for the 2023 sporting season in which case this decision would be a bit premature.

If the other summer sports follow through with the same plan then it'll have a lot of implications for qualification to the 2024 Olympics.

I am pretty sure Russia will not be in Paris if you ask me. They violated the olympic truce, I do not see how IOC will allow them to compete even under Olympic flag.

Won't :RUS and :BLR be relegated anyway? There are already 16 teams set for next year without them.

Not sure, the IIHF essentially removed them and re-juggled Division 1. They also have to decide on how to handled the withdrawn teams in the lower divisions.

The fairest thing would probably be to reintroduce them in Division 1A and for the withdrawn teams back to their old divisions, but Russia does have a lot of clout. We could see a scenario where 18 teams compete at the world champs and then either four get relegated or two get relegated, but none get promoted.

    • If Colturi were to return to Italy, we will have another super duo after Goggia and Brignone. If Colturi has to return, it would be right now, when alpine skiing is so popular here. There are still girls like Pirovano, who are quite young and are already started winning. Alpine skiing in Italy is similar to ski jumping in Poland: there are speak about no young talents, but there is always someone new – it is a matter of the popularity of these sports in these countries and the large amounts of money invested in them.

    • Holdener beat Aicher for 2nd place by 0.04 so Aicher has to win the last GS to have any chance for the overall (trails Shiffrin by 85 pts).
    • Shiffrin wins by 1.32 secs! Business as usual
    • Anna Trocker takes the lead despite a big mistake. Maybe there is some future for  alping skiing
    • Lucas seems to be on another level in Giant Slalom right now.
    • Pinheiro Braathen wins the last GS and the small globe! Odermatt DNF in the first run and he's really tailed off in the last races.
